called, left no message

keeps calling me asking for jeremy. heavy accent. possibly debt collector?

A guy with an Indian or middle eastern accent calls, indenfying himself as representing the IRS and saying that I  was qualified to receive $2500 from the IRS.  He proceeded to confirm my name and address, but once he asked if I'm still banking with Bank of America (I've never had), that's when I Googled the phone number and told him, that this number was a scam and not from the IRS.  Immediately after saying this to him, he hung up.

One more thing, to make the conversation short, before they start talking and trying to verify your name and address, ask the following:  

If you are really calling from the IRS, can you tell me the last 4-digits of my social security number.

Watch how fast they hang up.

I continue to find more info, and I'm trying to make sure people innocent people aren't affected by this scam:

When in doubt, recipients of calls claiming to be from the IRS should ask the caller for his name, title, call back number and identification number, without giving the caller any personal information, Stell said.

The validity of an IRS call can be checked by telephone by calling the IRS Tax Help Line at (800) TAX-1040. Taxpayers who believe they have been victimized by providing personal or financial information as the result of a scam e-mail or telephone call should contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at (800) 366-4484.

They hang up when I pick up the phone!  Quite annoying!!!!
