- puddle jumperhave ben getting calls not sure what it is about, going by the number that was showing it is some scam debt collector for my deceased fathers estate, I also got a letter that asked for information about who is authorized to handle it as well, will not reply to either, when it comes to calls like this and others I have 2 suggestions.
1. do not answer numbers that you do not recognize at all.
2.turn off your voice mail and answering machine, we got along with out both before, we can do so now, all those scammers want is to harass you until you pay and if your machine or voice mail picks up they know that they have a valid phone number, so turn it off and let them eat dial tone.- Caller: suspected scammer

- RyanT282My beloved mother died a month ago and unfortunately left quite a bit of debt because she had become too ill to work. She had debt collectors calling her number all day every day. Even in death, they are still calling, including this Ascension. They leave messages on my mom's phone (I still have her number active for a while longer). They say they want to speak to somebody presiding over her estate. Nope! I don't answer the calls, and I sure won't pay a dead person's debts!

- FamilyReceived a call from Acension wanting to discuss our deceased daughters estate. We just buried her two weeks ago! Told him I would not discuss anything with him and he said we would be receiving a letter from them that wouldn’t include any information about the debt but just a phone number to call. Told him our daughters estate is in probate and lawyers are handling it. He said we needed to take the letter to the lawyer. We have been paying our daughters bills since 8/18 - over a year! All bills are up to date. What a jerk!!

- MAJuly 2020 and the calling number and call content is basically the same as other reporters from 2018 and 2019. Apparently these scammers cannot be stopped. I had never even heard of the person they were referring to, so not even a family member.

- MichiganYes they call none stop, half the time no one is on the line. I think they scan court filings for new deaths. My mother did die. I do have an attorney and going through probate. So they can do their own leg work. Thank you for the reviews. They are now blocked
- Dye Rhea Flushing N.Y.A computerized female voice states a name of a deceased person asking if we know that person; if we are not related then call [t]hem back and [t]hey will take us off their records..... We don't know such a person, and I feel it's not my obligation to call any one back. Sounds like a scam to us.

- No Fool| 1 replySCAM!! These despicable people called me & my Mom regarding my recently deceased Dad, a VERY responsible man who was an Accountant & knew he was dying of cancer for a long time & had therefore put all of his affairs in order. They called & said wanted to speak to me about a debt owed by (his Name) I knew a scam immediately! & said I didn't know who or what they were talking about. They called again & I yelled SCAMMER & they hung up. They also sent my Mom a letter & she said that if she didn't know better she could have been fooled & How many people whose family members died suddenly without affairs in order these low-life SCUM may be taking advantage of & SCAMMING at the worst moment in their lives!! I am going to try & send info to News, FCC, USPS to stop these ruthless heartless people & implore anyone reading this to do the same.!!

- BigA replies to No FoolThe FCC and the USPS have nothing to do with this.
You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All
Everything else you need to know follows including at least two or more federal and state agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

BBB gives them an accredited A+ rating with 38 complaints and 13 negative reviews (BBB removed 24 complaints so that they could up the rating from an A to an A+, probably cost these crooks money for that boost): http://www.bbb.org/minnesota/business-reviews ... ds-mn-96102378/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general
