Portfolio Recovery, trying to collect a debt

Portfolio Recovery Associates is a sham company that buys debts that have fallen off peoples credit reports and tries to strong arm people into paying with threats "we will have you arrested," "you can only deal with us and pay us over the phone by credit card."  Things like this strongly make me believe this is a pure scam setup.

Keeps calling I don’t answer

They started right off with my SS# I told them that I would not respond to that then they said well isnt 11/24 your birthday I said f33k off nice try. Be careful people they are phising for information

These folks are persistent.  They can call till their fingers fall off.  I'm never answering their calls or any other I can't recognize.  Neither should you.

Spam

Portfolio Recovery is going after debts that are no LEGALLY BINDING to the borrower. You are no longer legaly bound to pay this debt therefore you can tell Portfolio to stop calling you and by LAW they MUST stop.

If they are indeed some form of collector the law requires them to leave their name, company name and a phone number, as well as their reason for calling. Hang up calls are in violation of the law and constitute harassment and should be reported to the FTC as well as the states Attorney Generals Office.  As for Portfolio Recovery, they are a sham third party collector, that tries to collect on expired debts. Companies like them should be driven out of business

Getting calls from this number also other numbers every morning. They do not leave message with the reason for their calls. all most all hangup calls are listed under Portfolio recovery on user boards.

I am not saying  these calls are scams. They are legitimate in my case. I do owe them.  AND I had been paying them $5 a month because it is all I could afford because I'm on disability and a very fixed income. They have always treated me kindly. HOWEVER, I just received a call DURING the Coronavirus pandemic that has left many people in dire straits financially, the world is quarantined and they have the AUDACITY to call me for a debt!!!! It's in VERY poor taste to say the least.  Right now we can't even leave our homes.  Shame on you Portfolio Recovery.  Have you no mercy.

I never answer unknown callers. However, after reading the comments, I’m not sure why they are calling me. I’m a retired Regional Collection Department Manager of a major bank and as such, have lived my life debt free. As NQ stated, collection agencies are required to adhere to the FDCPA. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If you do not know the number, DO NOT ANSWER‼️If it is a reputable caller, they will leave a message.
