I received a  mysterious hand delivered non- postage financial harassment letter with this number titled CONFIDENTIAL. i AM REPORTING IT TO THE POLICE!

I Googled that phone number and it appears on the website of the Consumer Credit Counseling Service (in the small print at the bottom):  https://onlinecounsel.cccsatl.org/beehive.asp  

I don't know anything about this CCCS, but I do know that some debt collectors masquerade as credit counseling organizations. Something to keep in mind. Good luck.

They actually came to my door looking for my landlord, and went to all the apartments in the building. The landlord doesnt live here. No identification on the paperwork. Phone number only. No compnay name, NO small print at the bottom with a website saying credit help or bill pay help or anything like that.

Guy called from here looking for my boss, he advised he was calling on behalf of my Boss's Mortgage company.

I know the CCCS is a non-profit debt counseling service set up to operate under the HUD and NFCC regulations although they are not a government agency.

I'd bet that mortgage companies pass names along to them if you are in danger of foreclosure?

sfg is right on.  I asked them how they got my number, and they told me that my mortgage company gives them all numbers of people that are in danger of foreclosure.  They basically don't trust the Freddy/Fanny services.

Credability company called saying they were given phone number at mortgage company request to schedule mortgage counseling.

Call your mortage company. I called my mortgage company 4 times to get different reps they all had no idea who they were and said its public records is where they get the info from. They know ur name and property address! Be safe people. Peace

Stated they had been referred by my mortgage company and offered counseling services.

I am about 1 month behind on my mortgage, but that is due to a having my pay cut, hours cut, mandatory days off without pay, as well as the inflation that everyone else is going through.  Just not making as much money as I was a couple of years ago.

Not going to call back.

They left several messages on my voicemail saying my mortgage company has referred them to me.  They said they are HUD counselors from http://www.credability.org but I don't think they are.

I am suspicious because I do not have any problem with my mortgage right now.  So why would my mortgagor refer me to them.
