- The wrong partyI wasn't even the party with the alleged debt. When I told them that, and asked them to stop calling, the representative rudely answered that they were "an arbitration group, and we'll keep calling."

- Upset| 1 replyI received a recorded call on my job referencing a file #. I thought surely it must be a wrong # because I don't give anyone my work #. I returned the call, was put on hold, & then this Kathy Calhoun comes on the line. She claimed that I had committed check fraud & that I was being served. I hung up on her & she called back. I hung up on her again, she called back & talked to the receptionist. She called me back again & I hung up on her again. I have already filed an FTC complaint.

- Angie JoThis number keeps calling me, "Investigator" Mike tells me I had money deposited in my Checking Acct in January of 2012 for a payday loan, and when they tried to collect a payment 7 days later my Checking acct was closed. I informed him I was looking at my statement from that month online as we were speaking, and no such thing had happened, that I had had that dda acct since 2004, and it has never been closed. He said they have tried to "serve" me papers that day. I told him I have been home all day, and no one has knocked at my door. I told him I have proof, he needs to take me to court, I will win, so they can serve me all they want. I have NEVER borrowed $1054 from a payday loan company.
- Angie JoCan someone tell me how I can file a complaint against them? They refuse to mail me paperwork, which is what my lawyer has advised me to ask them for. I believe it is a scam.
- Angie Jo replies to UpsetHow do I file a complaint?
- scam| 2 repliesI got a call a voice mail from this company stating they were federal investigators and if I didn't call them back that they would show up at my door or at my employment. They stated that I commited check fraud and if I didn't agree to make payments that on Monday they were going to go to the police and put me in jail. Like an idiot I fell for it and agreed to pay them. Fortunately, I didn't give them my correct address or credit card because I didn't want them to know where I was in case they did something else. I told my daughter about it and she was furious and is going to call them. She said I shouldn't pay them anything.

- Alfalfa replies to scam| 1 replyThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
