They left a message in my voicemail about summons and they will serve me in 24-48 hrs at my home or work place. - BigA replies to Glenda RIf you owed money to an auto financing bank and you were behind on payments they would not hire a third party debt collector. They would simply come and repo the car.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- M BriggsThe person/company called my private line. They told me I have a summons that would be served within 24 hrs. Apparently regarding a debt from 8 years ago. I called my lawyer promptly. I was told this is a scam where they try to collect money from people on debts that were discharged years ago, or in my case a bankruptcy. They are very rude & try to make you scared. This is a tactic they use to get you to pay...DON'T!

- Becky H.| 1 replyMy husband received a call from this number as well. Said the same exact things as all above comments. The recorded message said to either press 1 or call back the 1-866 number. He did NOT press 1 nor did he call back and we have no intentions to. What is the world coming to? This makes me so angry. Please be careful, everyone!

- DeeI received a call July 31st from this number they left a voicemail from Stewart Stevenson stating that there was a summons that required my attention. They were going to present a copy at my home and at my place of work and a supervisor would have to sign as a witness. I called back and spoke with Vanessa, I told her send me all documentation they had for said Judgement/Summons. I was sent a letter that some of my personal information most of it was incorrect. The information she provided me wasn’t anything close to what a creditor is suppose to provide. I told her that there are a lot of scams that are going around and that I would contact the lender for this said debit. The letter stated I needed to pay the full amount in two days from the 31st of July. Here it is August 8th and I haven’t heard anything else from them.

- Masters DegreeI received a phone call from them as well and they tried it by leaving a message stating that they were going to serve me. No one gives someone a heads up about service when it comes to debt. I knew it was a whole lie then. I’m a teacher with a masters degree so I’m not easily fooled and they don’t get me. I rolled my eyes at their attempts. I work at an elementary school so good luck serving me buddy!
