    This is an answering service. Supposedly has many businesses. A person must give the 'file info' from a letter recieved in the mail to be connected to the 'proper' company!!

    No, you can be 100% sure that is one of the scammers.  They do that when they want to confuse people about who is calling.  It will end up in threats trying to scare you into paying (extortion).

    First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

    Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
