I never knew this person and was abit uneasy to know someone was using my contact information. They had never lived there as my home is new and I am the only one who has ever lived there.
I asked what was the problem and why was she calleing me and there were no details given except it appeared tht he was in some big trouble. Tha t is fraudulant for him to use my contact information.
I would like to knwo what is going on.

I received a call 3-5-09 from a so called "investigator cummings", she was looking for a man (who's name happens to be my brother) and would only tell me it was regarding an insurance claim he filed, but later in the conversation her story changed to an insurance claim filed against him.  She said it was very important and he must call within 24 hours.  She left a phone number of 866-483-3989 for a call back.  I don't know how she found me and not him, seems she would have had to look real hard to find me and yet he can be found anywhere.  Not sure she's a real good investigator!!!   Sounds like fraud to me!!!!

Hi, my 83 year old grandmother just receive a call from an investigator Cummins over the weekend (3-21-09).  She left a very abrupt message stating that she was looking for me and my husband because she would like to help us out of a very bad situation.  I called her number back and left a message.  Is she a real investigator or just a bill collector who does investigative work to track down people on behalf of the creditors?

Needless to say.... I will be turning her name over to my attorney to let her deal with her.  They sure do come up with some interesting stories just so that you will hopefully call them back.

On another note... the same afternoon my Grandmother recieved a call from someone in the "law firm" of Rockmore & Rockmore.  Are these people for real.  Desperate times now means calling relatives in hopes you will track down the person you are looking for.  What the hell....? This is harrassment!!

    Watch out for these numbers....

Good Luck to everyone out there who owes a creditor money.  Hell, if I had the money they would have been paid to begin with.  Calling my relatives is not going to get them money any sooner.  I don't have any to send!  Duh!!

Okay y'all, I did more research and I found out who Roquemore & Roquemore are.  This skiptracing firm is looking for people who have fallen behind in the car payments or who let the insurance on there car lapse.  I don't know why they are looking for me though.  I don't fit into this catagory at all.  They are one of the worst collection firms out there and they are ruthless. Beware of this company....  They work off of commission and they want to repo your belongings.  BEWARE of this collection agency.  They are not looking to work with you, just find you and repo your property.

If they keep harassing you please visit the Federal Trade Commission's website (www.ftc.gov) to file a complaint.

    Good Luck

I Also recieved a call from these people wanting me to call them regarding needing information, even offered a possible finders fee, no offense i know we all have our jobs to do but first i am not going to help them find anyone if this person is having financial trouble then that is hard enough to deal with then calling people who has no family contact. what happened to privacy rights. isnt that spreading your personal business around i mean i am not even a family member to this person, they have even called my neighbors and that is going to far,

the phone number was also 1-866-483-3989

    This is a good one.
I am not rich but I do not owe money to any one, 1 credit car only for emergencies and I got home this evening and had this message on the answering machine regarding my name (I have a very common name) and  a Juan Ventura "I think it is" (that was part of the message) regarding "Maria del Carmen Tompkins". The number was 866-483-3986. I returned the call (past office hours) and left a message that I didn't know the firm, Juan Ventura or Maria del Carmen, and certainly never been in Texas or know the firm. Never been in a car accident either. My feelings is that this is a scam. Does anybody knows how to really get them to stop? for good?

    Do Not call me again
I have been called 3 times by a Jennifer of Rockmore & Rockmore. The second time she called I told her I did not know the name of the person she is looking for. She said they were trying to collect from this person. I told her I do not know this person. Last night she called again and said that when I hung up with her on the last call the person called her right away but she missed the call. She accused me of calling this person myself. This is so crazy. Is something being done about this?

Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

    David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

    1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
    2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
    3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

My neighbor received a call regarding my number address stating they were investigating whether someone was even living at that address, his name was Mark Bristo and he said he was out of the Dallas area, and he was calling the neighbors in the area to find out if anyone is even living at my home address, he then proceeds to state on the message to my neighbor, "you know the home is under foreclosure" and could really use their help and if they would call back at 1-866-577-1867 and then gives a case number related to me. Their main office is located out of Garland, Tx according to their website, but they have a PO Box out of Dallas. They are actually collection agency but state they are investigating. Debt collectors have a right to call a third party as far as basic inquiry, unless the person not affiliated with the debt informs them not to call, but once they brought up foreclosure and then gave a case number to give if the person was to call. My neighbor called me and then proceeded to leave along with the message the playback of the message left on their machine. The caller ID had the number below, but gave the 866 toll free number to call back. They are in direct violation with the FDCPA, and a complaint can be made there, with the attorney general, and most importantly the FTC-Federal Trade Commission, which has an online complaint form to submit. If all of the above and any more who continue to receive their deceptive debt collection calls where to make a complaint that once the FTC gets enough from my understanding then it can go into a class action suit besides anyone who chooses to file their own law suit. Their website refers to getting the job done where other collection agencies have failed, and within 21 to 28 days. If after 28 days still haven't they turn it over to another worker in their company and then you will probably start getting a new message from someone different. Their focus is collecting and repossessing, cars, trailers, boats, etc. Which by them mentioning to the neighbor they were aware that the home was in foreclosure which is unrelated to the reason they were trying to locate me. Now mind you, my home is lit up like the 4th of July with all the Christmas lights, so they obviously didn't come to the location otherwise they wouldn't have been inquiring whether anyone was living there. They were on a fishing expedition! Once they allude to a debt or/and in my situation even gave a case number(coinciding with they were investigating) making it appear as if it is some form of law enforcement. Times are tough, and as others have stated if payment could be made immediately or on time obviously it would be made, and even though the actual creditor (which by the way will be held accountable as well for the actions of debt collectors they use)any other information given other than just basic questions without revealing any other info including that debt is owed or case numbers, or home is being foreclosed on crosses the line and they will be held accountable and they are in direct violation. Whatever you do don't ignore even if you owe, one has nothing to do with the other, matter of fact the debt from cases I have read can actually be wiped out, titles turned over free and clear, in addition to other charges they may have to pay under punitive charges. I apologize for the length, but it is very important for you as well as for the future people harassed by these deceptive practices that are illegal and unprofessional, regardless of what debt is owed, don't let that keep you from reporting it, again reporting it doesn't cause other issues if you are attempting to avoid while trying to either come up with the funds, or decide what you are wanting to do regarding your particular situation. And definitely have your relatives, friends, neighbors, or whomever else is contacted and given information to write it down and I would type it up and get it notarized immediately to have on file if it comes to needing it, when it first occurs, lots of stores have notaries and it is only a couple of dollars but it will be to your benefit if needed, I stress again don't let the fact that you owe prevent you from reporting and filing a complaint or even a legal lawsuit, their behavior is unrelated to your debt even though it may be because of the debt they attempt to try whatever means to collect, they get huge percentages on what they collect so some as foolish as the man whom called my neighbor and crossed the line, and I did file a complaint with Federal Trade Commission, I am presently filing with the Attorney General which can be submitted online as well, and the next step is the FDCPA, and then if the original creditor is a bank, federal credit union, or whatever entity you have a loan with, they have a higher institute that regulates and supervises a nation's industry. In addition to all the above..lol.. if they have done anything similar to my situation above they are also in direct violation of the privacy act. Times are desperate and I am guessing for these collection agencies that are doing stupid acts that are in direct violations all over the place, but their stupidity and disregard, and disrespect may just become your greatest asset.

I had the same problem from this company. They were looking for my friend but kept harassing me at my work place looking for my friend's car which I have no connection to at all.

The woman who called was Barbara Davis and her direct line is 214-550-1565 or 866-726-2981. She sent a huge guy like bubba to my office and this guy told one of my colleagues the following: "I came looking for the black Ford Mustang that his girl friend drives. It was acquired illegally; therefore I came to take it back".

Then she kept calling me and threatening me with all sorts of stuff like getting police involved.

Thank you my friend Sattvasurya. I took your advice and I filed a complaint with the California Attorney General and also the Federal Trade Commission.

I've had similar harassing calls from the Roquremore & Roquemore group. It was about a relative in which I had nothing to do about their debt and I didn't know much else. I told the what I knew and left it that that.

They kept calling and leaving messages, saying things like "I'm about to get into everyone's business if you don't return the call" and stating things like where I've been going to school (I go to college), which is none of their business.

I contacted Federal Trade Commission and told me I should write a Cease Contact letter to the company. I'm doing so now and hopefully this will help. This might help too whoever else is being harassed about something you have nothing to do with.

I actually wound up with 3 messages from Mark Bristow of Roquemore & Roquemore (said it was a "firm") on my answering machine. I am recently divorced and live with my parents. The first message was for my dad and gave all the information, including a case number. "Mark" said he was investigating a claim with State National Insurance Company. Well, they only operate in Texas, and we don't even know anyone in Texas. Automatically I was a little skeptical. The next message asked for me, saying that he was investigating a claim involving me with State National Insurance Company. A few minutes later he called back saying that he had mispoke in his previous message, and that the claim actually involved Brandon and that he was looking for information. Brandon is the name of my ex-husband. The call for my dad was the only one that had a "case number", but all three left the same contact information. I'm sure it's something for my ex, and when we first got married we did use my parents' address. I called the guy back & left him a message (after business hours) because I do not want to be contacted for anything regarding my piece of crap ex! Anything he has out there is his problem, and I don't even know where he is. Everyone look out for this "skip tracing" company! (The call back number he left was 866-577-1867.)
