Suspicious that the voice mail says one thing and voice caller ID says something else.  caller said to call Anchor Receivables Management and caller I.D. says portfolio recov.

I received a call from a person who would not identify who he represented.  All he would give me is his name, David, and telephone extension, 33218.  I'll leave out the last name for now.  I suspect this is some sort of scam as David we very demanding and talked down to me, which upset me.  At best David crossed the line by stating that I had 20 minutes to get my family memebr to call him back.  I asked to speak with his supervisor and he would not tell me a name or pass me to anyone else.

I was trying to find out where the number 866-500-0609 came from when I found this web site.  My orginal intention was to find a supervisor or manager to file a complaint against David.  They are actually trying to contact a family member of mine and I will not give out her number, but she has already contacted Anchor, about 3 weeks ago.  Today is 10/10/2007.  If something can be done about this company I would be pleased to help and tell my story.

They called my home number and just left a message to call them no account number or name.  I called and they answer phone with "hello" not company name, when I spoke to a guy and gave him my name he could not pull anything up and then asked for my telephone number, the one they called me on, would not give to him and then I asked to speak to his supervisor and the went off told me that I could call back and speak to them but he would not give me the name of supervisor, very strange,  called back once more and woman I spoke to said he should not have done that and said that they are skip tracers and perhaps it belonged to someone who had the number before me.  Very strange almost sounded like some kind of scam.

I have been receiving calls from Anchor Receivables Management to my home (and home office) for someone who doesn't live at my address.  David Lynun (called twice, his number and extension is 1-866-500-0609 x33228) and Char (called one time) call asking for this person (and several questions not related to me.)  I have asked them to stop and they keep asking me these unwarranted questions regarding this person they are trying to contact.  

Not only are these calls unwarranted and unwanted for no reason or related issue directly involving me or my family; they are harassing.  David stated that this person had put my address down as if she lived here.  I am having that investigated as I believe that he is lying – or at least the other party involved is lying and will be found.  I don’t have time to dedicate to these tacky business practices and deal with other peoples issues.

About 1 month ago my son in college started getting these calls.  Thanks to everyone who posted information on this website, especially the link to Bud Hibbs website.  I will do some more investigating on this and then will follow the advice on Bud's website.  I will try to post here with what I learn

You know what is funny.. i am getting these same calls and about 5 months ago we got the same kind of calls on my husbands cell phone from another company.. they would not let me speak with the supervisor and they told me that i had 30 mins to get them 2500.00. This has to be a scam! when i turned it into the BBB they sent them a letter but they never reponded back so the case was closed. I contacted the Attorney General also about the scam. I was told by this company that they would mail me documentation that my husband owed dept. ( they said that he stole money from the government... i think they target military personal!) But it never came in the mail! And they also answered, "Hello" when you call them! I recorded all the calls and printed off all info that i could find about the company. Funny that Portfolio recovery is a machine when they call and not a live agent. They try to strong arm you to get information out of you! DONT FALL FOR THIS! I did, but know I know not to! Stay strong dont let them strong arm you!!!!

1-23-08 Automated voice says call 1 866 500 0609 this Anchor Receivables collection agency

I pulled myself out of debt last year. I know what is on my credit report at this time and I don't owe any money in error. This is the first time that a message has been left and they have been calling for the past 5 months (I cleared all debt last March). A female said: "This is Anchor Recievables Management. This call is being made to collect a debit. Please call 1-866-500-0609 at your earliest conveniance. Again, this is Anchor Recievables Managaement and any information given will be used to settle the debt in question. The number is 1-866-500-0609." So, I called. I got shunted to an automated system that did not pick up for more than five minutes. Then I decided to do a little research.

There are several numbers associated with this company and their website look legitimate. However, I can find no real way to contact a person either on the phone or through the website.

I have reported this to my local phone carrier as well as my State Attorney General. I have read several reports about this number and company and it sounds as if they are running a scam.

I got a pre-recorded call last night with the same message as noted in other postings, something about collecting a debt, Anchor Receivables, and the 866 number.  I'm pretty sure it's a scam; what good does a pre-recorded message do for a debt collector?

An automated message was left on my law office voice mail.  When I called it back, there was a recording asking for the last four digits of my SS#.  What sort of MORON would give that to a recording?

After repeated attempts, I reached Tara, x33234.  I explained that a message had been left at my LAW OFFICE phone number, and I needed to investigate to see whether this was a case of identity theft, or possibly a client that gave them my number.  I was told that they were looking for a "Kenneth Lathrop."  That person is not a client, so they apologized saying "it must be a wrong number."  

I demanded that my number be removed from their system, and Tara said that it would be.

Go to Buddy Hibbs website and download cease communication letter to collection agent, send it certified mail to a vaild street address.  If they continue calling, document and file a lawsuit.  These idiots making the calls are apparently making a lot of money for Anchor Receivables, AKA Portfolilo Recovery Systems.

Same as the above posters.  Same message.  I do not have any debt, tried to call the number they left and it hung open with no real answer.  I've had this cell phone number for over 2 years.  Very sleazy feel to these guys.  I'm going to block the number.  If I really DID owe a debt somewhere, it would be sending me something in the mail, right?  Nothing.  Lived at the same address for 21 years.

Same as in many others reported here. Sounds like a big scam and must be stopped. I sense from other notes that calling back 1-866-500-0609 serves no purpose and the best course of action is to lodge complaints with the state attorney general, the SEC, and BBB.

Are these people so hard up that they go through the phone book and just pick someone with the same last name as the person they're looking for? I pay for my phone and you have no right calling my house bothering me with someone elses debt. I pay my bills,so please don't bother me again.

Bud Hibbs is receiving numerous complaints about PRA. In addition to their shady collection practices, they are also sending out 1099-C's on old debts which were beyond the SOL, uncollectable and NEVER VALIDATED:

According to the WV General's Office, "In the case of a debt that has been disputed and cannot be proven a 1099c is not a valid option for a CA to file. By filing the 1099c they are saying that yes this is that persons debt and we can prove it is. However if they cannot validate they cannot file the 1099c". ...they suggested the recipient of the 1099-C file a complaint with our State's AG office or file a civil suit or both".
