We received a call from this phone number on 8/19/13 and before I could verify it was legitimate they called back...within 15 seconds.  The person calling AND his "supervisor" cannot speak English clearly.  They called a third time and still won't give up. We are even on a no-call list in Indiana.  What a farce!

Received same call from a person purportedly with the "Microsoft Operating System" company.  He tried to tell me that he wanted to locate certain "hidden files" in my machine and that they were placed there illegitimately.  Decided to lead the caller on for a while to see what he was trying to do.  His voice was so foreign it was extremely difficult to understand what he was saying.  He obviously was trying to get me to access files in my machine but it finally came to a point where I could not understand what he was trying to do.

After playing around with him for about 10 minutes, I finally admitted that I deal professionally with computers and wanted to know why he was calling me.  He then again tried to tell me that he wanted to locate certain "hidden files."  I asked if he was associated with Microsoft in any way and he denied it.  He said that he was located in California and was Associated with the 866-539-8764 number.  I then told him to wait a minute so that I could look up the number in a (my bogus) “federal database.”  He hung up.

Just a word of caution – don’t let these guys get into your machine.  They can wreak havoc.

I love to screw with these scammers.

I had the same experience.  It was kind of fun for a while to try to get him to admit he really didn't know anything about my computer.  I kept asking him which computer (I actually do have 3).  He couldn't answer that.  I'd say which operating system? He says, Windows. I'd say which version or serial number, he had no answer.  What a scam.  I feel sorry for folks who let these people into their systems.  Why can't something be done about this?
