- Jeff| 19 repliesjust wondering who this might be.
- Loren Hill| 2 repliesThey said they were from B of A fraud dept. and to go to www.myfraudprotection.com. I haven't logged into the web site yet. not sure if they want to sell me cc protection
- Caller: Fraud detection dept of B of A
- Regan replies to Loren HillI got a call from them too and went to the website www.myfraudprotection.com
When I got there my virus protection software indicated that it was identified as a phishing site. I am going to call B of A next. - JNEU| 3 repliesI received a call today, same phone number. I called the customer service number on the back of my card and reported it as a potential fraud and found out that it is NOT A FRAUD. My husband works for B of A and someone thousands of miles away tried using a counterfeit card with our account number yesterday for $800+ at Home Depot. B of A denied the charge because of the location and dollar amount pending verification of the person's identity. Kudo's to B of A for stopping the charge! They closed our account immediately when I called and are re-issuing cards.
- Caller: B of A
- Kathy replies to JNEUI think it's a fraud, I got a voice mail message claiming it was from BOA but regarding a credit card that was NOT issued by them or that they should have anything to do with! That website doesn't seem to be connected to the actual BOA site that you reach with normal web searches. Don't fall for it!
- Q| 5 repliesAutomated dialer claiming to be reporting suspicious activity on Bank of America account
Indicated we should call 1-866-559-0025 and enter a 6-digit code, or visit www.myfraudprotection.com. That website is flagged as a phishing site.
Will probably call BoA directly.- Caller: Bank of America (allegedly)
- Call type: Unwanted
- Amy| 1 replyI received a call from this number today, and also thought it seemed suspicious, as the Bank of America website does not have any links to www.myfraudprotection.com. When I called one of the phone numbers from B of A's own website, I found that they HAD put a hold on my account for suspicious activity. Two of the on-line retailers I made holiday purchases through on Monday charged my account on Monday, and then seemed to be charging my account again. Turns out that they were just splitting up my orders into separate little shipments and it only looked like they were charging me multiple times for the different items. B of A was very helpful and took off the hold on my account.
- Caller: Bank of America (allegedly)
- DavePhone message regarding questionable transactions on our credit card, included the last 4 digits of our card (which is not issued by B of A). Call back number was 866-559-0025. Also referred to website myfraudprotection.com
I opened this website on a clean computer, it asked for the account number, which of course I did not enter. - dxpjust an fyi...
did NOT get a call but an actual letter in the mail... with my name, some acct number that may or may not be mine and a number to call because they "haven't been able to reach us to discuss this matter"... they also said go to www.myfraudprotection.com.... that number btw is 800 427 2449... sounds very phishy... now we have to beware of phishing scams through the mail... wow...
i became immediately suspicious when the letterhead wasn't in color and they added two additional digits to my zip+4 making it a zip+6?
be careful out there - pt| 2 repliesI received a recorded message on jan 09-08 indicating there may have been fraudlent activity on my Bk of Amer credit card - and was given similar instructions about calling this 866 number or going to www.myfraudprotection.com.
I was hesitant to do so - but did call the Bank of America customer service phone on my last statement. Based on my experience - It appears the recorded message was legimate, and not a sneaky way of trying to sell extra fraud protection. Apparently a charge I made at vendor the day before was posted twice - so a hold was placed on my account. This was an error on the vendor's part - so Bank of America did prevent a duplicate charge from being placed on my account. And no attempt was made by the rep I talked to to sell me any additional products. But if you receive a recorded message indicating you should this 866 number or go to www.myfraudprotection.com, I would still suggest calling the Bank of America customer service # on the back of my card or on my statement to be on the safe side.- Caller: Bank of America
- J| 1 replyThis is a legit site for BOA's fraud department. My card was locked today for a bad charge, and the BOA website and a phone call both directed me to it. I decided to call the card instead directly, but the site is from them.
- Caller: BOA
- Call type: Unwanted
- PHISHING SCAM replies to JNo, it is NOT a legitimate site and you must be part of the scam if you're claiming it to be.
Wise up folks! Banks don't call you and ask you to visit websites with foreign URLs or enter information about yourself that they should already know. - PHISHING SCAM replies to pt| 1 replyNo, it is NOT a legitimate site and you must be part of the scam if you're claiming it to be.
Wise up folks! Banks don't call you and ask you to visit websites with foreign URLs or enter information about yourself that they should already know. - PHISHING SCAM replies to Loren HillYou did the right thing. This is DEFINITELY a scam and the people are even googling their own phone number and URL to put out false PR about it being legitimate. Think about it... why would Bank of America need a number other than their own fraud department or a website other than a page on their own?
ALWAYS Call your bank with the number printed on the card or on your statements to make inquiries. - PHISHING SCAM replies to Jeff| 4 repliesIt's a scam and anyone here stating otherwise is part of it and putting out fraudulent information about the legitimacy of it.
No doubt the message had the wrong last 4 numbers (2023 is the one they used for me... not even close) and the wrong name of the holder. That's the first and last red flag you should need.
Call your bank directly and find this out for yourself. - RobI got the phone call too for the 0025 number. I called B of A directly and they said it was legit. If you're worried, call them but I can confirm that whatever this is is correct. It's probably like pt or Harv had and there's just something you accidentally did like a double charge.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Phishing scam replies to AmyNo, it is NOT a legitimate site and anyone claiming it to be must be part of the scam.
Why would you take the word of an anonymous person here saying, "Go ahead! Trust me... it's legitimate." ???
Wise up folks! Banks don't call you and ask you to visit websites with foreign URLs or enter information about yourself that they should already know. - DaFuzzSame thing happened to me, I called BA, and it IS a legitimate website. (www.myfraudprotection.com). DON'T take my word for it, call your branch or a number that you find from your online account, statement or whereever. And give them hell about their poor publicity. (You dont even need to go to that website at all, just call your credit card hotline to clear whatever questionable charge's on there right now so you can get back to downloading porn or whatever)
- Kathy Sandwegtold me they were from the Fraud Protection dept of B of A and to call with possible fraud activity
- nevermind| 1 reply1-866-559-0025 is a phishing scam. I called Bank of America just now,
and they confirmed it is a phishing scam; the website is part of the scam.
Just wanted to let you all know. The criminals are out of the country and B of A said they cannot stop them because they are out of country.
