I got the same call. She said her name is Megan Stovall, chief executive service locator.   Gives a docket number as well.

I received a call from Megan Stovall. Scam said they would serve papers to place of employment. Asking for credit card number

got a call to my old number at work about a petitioning office to serve me at my residence and use a reference #31179.  I have been getting these calls off and on for the last 6 years.  I don't know how to stop them.

My husband got a call from this 866-572-7234 number and also said that they will serve him papers. That makes us feel anxious because we haven’t did any troubles. That’s why we looked it up and saw this complaints like what we’ve expected

Nothing to be "anxious" about.  This is an extortion scam being run by some really not to bright idiots who are trying to attain the title of criminals.

The fake process server extortion attempt usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

I am unable to reach you phone but in the documentation will be sent to your current practice served underprivileged . If you happen to have questions pertaining to these allegations please contact the petition important office 866-572-7234 when calling in reference to docket number _162190…”

Keep calling my Grandma threatening to serve papers at my place of Employment

These people somehow got my mom’s home number and threatening to serve me papers. Say I owe an amount of $625 and if I don’t pay it will double if the court sides on their behalf.

We just got a phone call about this for a person that has been dead for 9 years, and was never associated with the phone number they called. Desperate people!

This number called me claiming to be a Megan Stovall and they’re looking for someone who is not me and I’ve had this phone number for almost 10 years now. They’re looking for somebody else or somebody gave my Number when doing something else.

Called from number I did not recognize, 928-212-8878. I let it go to vm. Message said I would be served papers at my home or place of employment and to call them at a completely different number, 866-572-7234. They gave a docket number. I’m not calling these fools back. Scam.

Same message I live in Metro Detroit they used a 248-289-9995 and gave the 866-572-7234.  I work in Civil Law and work for a law firm, so what one posted commented above is accurate.  At no point in time is a Civil complaint filed underseal to the extent that they are hiring a process server to serve you and then the agency calls you to confirm that they can serve you at your address.

Be leary of calls.  Understand that the law is pretty clear.  Typically, most services will go out both mail (with proof of service ie: certified signed receipt/ FedEx with signed receipt) and/or by a processor.-- Multiple methods are generally utilized.  Anyway, you can search court records or call local courthouses to know if you're named in a complaint. Period. Unless it's a criminal matter. If you're a drug dealer you probably won't find your name on a docket pending an Criminal Complaint lol -- AND they don't send a process server out to your door!! lol

I'll jump on the band wagon as well and say I received this call just now same thing everyone else is reporting. They also called from this number too. 6362243432. Please beware and block the numbers if you can and report it here too

Just got the call from Megan Stovall.  Exact same as above.  SCAM

this caller now uses different numbers to call.  In my case they use 626-321-9772
