Number came up as Blocked/Unknown. An american man left a message after 4 calls-said name was Dean Chance states that he is conducting an investigation about a bad check charge and to call the plantiff back at #866-575-1559 with a supposed case number. States that they want to send someone to my place of employment or residence? Ok, so here we go again with the BS fraud calls. I have no bad checks outstanding-I haven't written a check in years. I have lived in the same residence for 10 years. I also verified that there is nothing filed against me at the county court. I had previously received the threatening Indian fraud calls but that had finally stopped-now the americans have started. I was unable to trace the number and verify if it is a VOIP or not. I will do some more digging and come back...............

Called the number back and it was a recording that states "you have reached American, dial the extension or wait for the next attendant." I waited and a woman named Sara answered so I could get their address-she gave a P.O. Box of course then put me on hold so I hung up. The address she gave was P.O. Box 74502 in Chandler, Arizona, 85225. I have already forwarded it to my attorney and will post more info when I get it. This company "American" now has multiple violations of the Fair Debt & Credit Collections Act by pretending to be an investigator, lying about a bad check, a court filing, sending a process server, etc. More info to follow.......

Same guy calling but now his name is Michael Blaine. He gives the same speech about bad check etc. but a different call back number of #855-708-2201. I'm so tired of the scam artists. Now this is additional info to send to my attorney today. I guess thay think if they call from a different number and use a different name that they can still try to work their scam

Hi DJ,  I am replying because yesterday I got a call at my work saying someone filed a complaint against me in Riverside. When the operator told her she could give out any information regarding whether or not I worked there this lady got all mad and rude. She kept trying to tell her what the complaint was about even though the operator told her it was none of her business about my personal life. So she finally got the ladys name and number her name was Angel Watson. and the call back number was 1-855-708-2201. I have no idea what this is all about or how they got my work phone number. When I called the number I got a recorded message saying I have reached American and to leave my case number and name and my case manager would get back to me on the next business day. Does this sound like the same company and what should I do, Thanks.

this is a bill collector plain and simple i called the number had a check and paid it . I suggest u do the same

i called and paid a bad check for a payday loan that i had i was upset about the message left aas well so  i sought legal advise and what my  attourney told me confused me, becasue they are what is known as first party collectors they do have a right to sue us for the bill or bad checkand they do NOT have to follow FDCPA it does NOT apply to first party collectors if u dont belive it look up FIRST PARTY DEBTOLLECTOR AND FDCPA state law does require to file in the county you live in and they intended to. they talked to my attourney with no problem we paid them i got a letter and i am done. i suggest youdo the same after all didnt you get the loan in the first place??????

In responding to all-namely ICE, who I'm guessing works for this "American" company. How can American be a first party collector when I have never had any dealings with them? No bad checks, etc. And per my attorney, "supposed" first party bill collectors CAN be charged with a criminal act under individual state law for "undue harrassment or threats." So, ICE pretending to be an investigator, lying about a bad check, lying about a court filing, lying about sending a process server, etc. will land American in a heap of trouble including fines from which I understand from my attorney can be assessed per phone call among other things. The classic part is that this "company" is not even in the state I live in.........

Roxanne-check online or by phone with the Riverside County to see if there really is anything filed against you. Chances are there is nothing. If you have an attorney, have your attorney American back. You can also call the following agencies to file a complaint-

All debt collection agencies and collectors have to be licensed & bonded. The Arizona Dept of Financial Affairs will impose sanctions or can revoke licenses for violations.

As you can see, my attorney has been very busy.

Just received a call from a (281) area code from a Michael Hodge and leaving this 866 number. Left no company name. Said in a very threatening tone he had a returned item from my bank and needed to speak to me immediately before pursuing any further serious action. Never mentioned my name or anyone I knew, and I know for certain I have no returned items from my bank. I definitely believe this is a fraud call, and not a bad debt or collections cal as others have mentioned. He left no reference # or account # either. Just told me to call the number back immediately.  Some people would innocently do as he asked.  Watch out!
