Hmmm.
My bank sent me an email, informing me that I would receive the new, "smartcard" soon, and to log into my account for more information.
They did not market it.
They did not ask for additional money.
They even told me that the number would not change.

- Shma replies to Userdid anyone end up blocking the number?
- Kim replies to ShmaIt is spam don’t give it a second thought they are just trying to get information from you they don’t have. If you don’t recognize a phone number or name don’t answer and if you do answer don’t engage with them and tell them to take you off your calling list or tell them to F off. A lot of people do have MasterCard so they’re hoping to get somebody who has one that they can intimidate and Wala they now can steal their identity. I have already gotten calls that looks like they’re from my bank and they tell me they need permission from me to read flag some thing on my account as somebody is trying to get a $10,000 withdrawal so I went along with them and was honestly shocked at how much information he had about me and my account but he needed me to open an email he sent As a means of getting my consent to stop the charge of course I did not open the email because I knew it was a scam. Had I open the email? He would have been able to screw me big time. I played with him for like 20 minutes, acting terrified and then I said nah banks 2 minutes away I’ll go talk to them. He was so mad and started cussing at me . I hung up. Idiot was sure he hit the mother load.

- Tanya replies to Tanya| 1 replySame thing happened to me. Someone called me once during normal banking time and second time during off banking time on Sunday morning. I was told HSBC mastercard “red-flag” that’s been opened recently has been charged on guns america online weapon website and that they need to verify this transaction. I told them to f off.
- Pudge replies to TanyaTanya, it is wise to be skeptical but do not ignore potential fraud calls. Any number can be spoofed; even legitimate bank numbers. Many banks and CC companies use third party fraud centers to send automated messages and/or calls. Call back to this number gets, "Welcome to HSBC." Goes on to give options for language and purpose of call. Again, your call may have been a spoofed number but play it safe. Call the number on your card or the published number for HSBC customer service. Tell them you got a call about a fraudulent charge. If the call was legitimate they will get you to the right department. One of the ways scammers can "win" is by throwing doubt on legitimate fraud warnings.
