    Tired of these people
    Don't answer the phone when these people call. They are scam artists.  They are trying to get money from anyone they can. A legitimate business is not allowed to give out personal identification information to anyone but that person. They are not allowed to leave information on a voice mail either. It's amazing that they can never produce any documentation.  The best thing is not to respond or answe the phone.

    From a person who has been scammed.
    Besides the FBI doesn't call

    Idiots
    I just received a call from this number and the girl that called asked to speak with me and I said that I wasn't available. She left a call back number and stated that if I did not call her back by 5 pm today then I would receive 3 charges against me for fraud. I laughed and then went silent on the line so she hung up. I know I have never committed fraud so I figured it was some type of scam.

    Continuously get calls from this number for someone that doesn't have this phone anymore.  I find it amusing because every time they call it's "investigator so and so..." Yet the name is different each time.  If you are trying to scam someone, at least make sure you use the same information.

    "miss grover" called twice and left a vm stating that she was a "senior investigator" and i needed to call her back by 5pm today, or they will proceed w 3 counts of fraud based from my name and social security number, and the charges were "defrauding of a financial institute" and "malicious fraud induct of services"

    this was a final notification or else they would expedite documents in accounting court.  8665973059 ext 201 was the number left and she ended with saying "this call is legal notification you have been legally notified."

    Received numerous calls at home and now at my job. Mrs. Spenser stated that she is a legal investigator for the county that I live in. She stated that if I do not return her call then I would have a charges placed against my name for fraud. I called the number back and actually got a man who stated that he was Mrs. Spenser..Really? I asked question in regards to whatever fraud that I have against me. He/She stated that he could not release that information but all he could tell me is that if I give him a credit or debit card to take care of a $989.63 balance, that he could stop all paperwork from going through against me with the courts. I requested a debt validation letter to be sent to me. He actually told me that there is no such thing and that I was trying to prevent the paperwork from going through by confusing him. I then stated in a very calm and collected voice that I would contact my attorney and have the attorney call them to discuss the matter. Needless to say Mrs. Spenser hung up on me..

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
