I received the same phone solicitation as the below description from 'vip.'  The information mailed to me matched the address and phone number and the web site refers to a world economic forum and not the Illinois Police Patrolman's Association. Suspected fraud operation.

Received a call Dec. 21, 2008 requesting a donation for the Illinois Police Patrolman's Assoc. I am a retired Police officer and checked them out. TOTALLY a scam, the www.theippa.com is a bogus website and they are using a number 217-735-2128 in Southern Illinois listed to Amanda Davenport. I told them to send me literature and they list this 866-6545482 number as their campaign office. BEWARE....REPORT them if you receive a call, they are not legit.

Caller claimed to be with the "Illinois Council of Police".  I immediately hung up on him.  A few days later I received a mailing from the [***] thanking me for my "$35 pledge" along with a form to send a check in.  Yeah right.

The cops know about them but I guess they won't touch them because they're a police union.

the Illinois council of police called me and wanted me to donate money for teddy bear programs for children in trauma situations, members health and welfares, bulletproof vests for members, and legal plans for officers when needed job related incidents..... but when the letter came in the mail my boyfriend had never heard of them so we looked them up. we looked at their website it looked really good. then we called the non-emergency line for the police and they have never heard of them and said that it looked like a legitimate program. why aren't the police doing anything to stop theses people from taking money from people

A guy with a police-officer kind of voice asked me if I'd contribute to this Il. Council of Police fund.  He sent me a form indicating that I'd promised to give him $25.  Then I googled.  Sorry, ICP.  SIUYA.

Received call from Illinois Council of Police.  Have donated in the past, stupidly.  Also donated to every police organization that called.  Stupid, stupid.  This time there was so much verbal noise in the background that I knew this was like a telemarketing effort.  I told them to take me off the calling list and hung up.  Yes, I know, they will call again in a few months.

    Just another scam
I have also received phone solicitations from the Illinois council of police. Luckily I never commit over the phone, and always ask for a form to be sent to my home.  This way I can check the validity of the organization. Seems to have worked again as these guys seem like a scam.

I work for a telemarketing outfit that makes calls for the "Illinois Council of Police".  Yes, 80-90% of your donations line the pockets of the telemarketing agency that makes the calls.  And, once you donate you will be forever harrassed with telemarketers calling you for donations under umbrella charities.

So why do you still work there, mate?
I got a job for the same company, thinking that I would be benefiting the community.  Over the first week I pieced together the nature of the company, and then got out pretty quickly.

The IL Council of Police called our house today.  I have been told that they are a scam, so I tried to get as much info from the caller as I could.  After a series of questions, the caller gave up and hung up on me.  I have reported them previously to our local police.  As I told him, my daughter works for the State and I have friends who are officers (state and county) so I would just prefer to give a check directly to them to help locally.  I think he knew I was on to him.

I used to work for a telemarketer in Illinois that made the calls for Illinois Cocil of Police. ICOPS is actually a organization that helps "Bad" cops or cops that need help get legal representation (attornies)...check out thier web site and read between the lines.  It is not the police...but a collective bargaining union.
This telemarketig agency also made calls for donations for veterans, firemen, breast cancer funds..on and on and on. We would call suckers in New York, Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri...to name a few.   It is a total scam......the call center takes 85% of every dollar you donate. It is a hunt for the dumb and dumber, a true numbers game.  About 3% of those people called will actually donate at least $15 - ,minimum patron listing donation.  About 40% of those who say they will donate actually are dumb enough to mail back check.  Since the telemarketer makes minimum wage...and the operation is ( i am not kidding) 20 ex-cons (mostly) calling from the basement of a seedy buildng (we are talking card tables set up with 1/2 broken computer.phone systems lined up and in place)  they make a LOT of money off stupid people....a lot of elderly people.  Once you are dumb enough to donate for one charity....(let's say the Police scam) LOOK OUT!!!  You will forever be called by the SAME outfit...by the SAME people...for every other kind of donations.  In three months you will get timely calls for Fire, Terminally ill children funds, Veterans...all of it.  They will call and call and call....:Suck the sucker dry" we used to call it. The script is VERBATIM, if you deviate from it...you are fired. To them this is MOST important...the worry of Law-Suits abounds. The script is very carefully put together...and if you read it VERBATIM they don;t have to worry about lawsuits.  Every phone call/convesation is monitored by (tatooted ex-con) supervisors and recorded.   The reason a lot of time the phone would ring and by the time you get to it...they hang up...is because noone actually called....It was the computer.  All these phone numbers are in the computer "File" to be called and as a PERSON on our end is available the computer will put it through.  If the phone rings and no one is there,,,it is because the computer knows a telemarketer is not available so it makes YOU wait or it hangs up on you.  Better the sucker waits...or runs to the phone over and over than have the minimum wage telemarketer wait for YOU! As a note, I left for greener pastures...I lasted about 1/2 a year.  I am not proud of what I did - but right out of the joint...it was the only job I could get. I lasted, much longer than the average employee there.  The average telemarketer lasts about 1 month.  If your hourly average isn't at least $40/hour in donations...they fire you.  If you can manage over $50/hour you get a whole 50 cents/hour extra in your weekly check. Most do not habit what it takes...to get slammed on all day long.   They computer assisted calls means as soon as you computer terminate one call...the next sucker is on the line.  You can average 400 calls a 6 hourshift this way.  Out of 400 calls.....there will be a few stupid people.  God....I hated it...but when your only option is to do it or be homeless...you have no choice. I hope this helps you to understand this slimy business.

Received  a call from ICOPS requesting $15.00 donation.  Received a statement in the mail and  "Back the Badge" bumper sticker.  Don't know if this is legitimate.

    My Decal
I got a decal for donating to the "illinois council of police" and after getting pulled over for speeding, I swear the cop said the reason she was giving me a break was because I supported police unions. To my understanding the icops is like the fop, just a police union. I didn't donate from a telemarketer, I went to  there website.

I never realized that this was a scam. I would send in my donation every year. I've probably done this for three or four years.

Is there anyway to get off of their call list?

I actually have donated money to ICOP in September 2011. Now I got another donation call, and it made me suspicious about the organization. I checked it out and found this website. It is a scam. I would be more careful about those donation calls.

Anyone who is concerned and wants info about the solicitations for these solicitations, email me at b.sanhu@yahoo.com, and I will happily give you all the info you need. I can tell you how it works, just about every little detail, because I AM THE ONE USUALLY CALLING...well me and say 20 other guys. But I am a "top caller",and we are one of the only companies which calls for ICOPS.

If you don' t want info, just advice then here it is--- when you receive the call, just play along and listen to us, make a pledge (the larger the better), and let us "transfer you to the verification department" where we verify your address and ask you to guarantee that amount of money through the mail. I know you don't want to give out your contact info. , but we have it anyway so it does not matter. Let us send you the envelope, receipt and info in the mail. When you get it DONT send a check back. This way, the telemarketers which are just poor unemployed people keep their job, and the evil company loses money. Be aware once you make a pledge you will receive calls for about 4 other different charities from us. But even if you don't pledge we will call you till the end of time...so I say just make a fake pledge and run our company bankrupt.

I feel horrible for what I do, and I will quit soon. I am 18, a student, poor, and this is my summer job...i will be leaving soon. But I vow to keep fighting this one way or another long after. I know you hate me, but do email me...I would love to give you info.
