I just received a letter (10.26.2012) postmarked in Phoenix on obviously bogus US Airlines letterhead informing me that I have won a pair of airline tickets. A Jaqueline Simms, "Vice-President," signed the letter and told me to call 866.673.3911 by October 31 to claim my prize. A Google of the number landed here. Recipients beware.

THIS IS A SCAM. There is no such air carrier called "US Airlines." There is US Air and United Airlines but "US Airlines" does not exist. http://www.kls2.com/airlines/n-america.html lists all North American carriers and "US Airlines" isn't on it. THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number,  or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php as appropriate.

Received this letter as well Saturday.  Called and they asked for age and how much you earn.  They wanted to set up an appointment for me to go on Friday at 5 pm or Saturday at 10 or 5:30.  Beware!  Do not give them any info.  I called from another number.

I too received a letter postmarked with the same dates on the same bogus Us Airlines letterhead informing me that I qualified for a pair of airline tickets. Call 866.673.3911. The Google search also landed me here. Just like the previous post. This is a scam. Report it to the Postmaster. Recipients beware. Thanks  Jay for posting. I guess this is the newest scam going around .

Same letter. Addressed hand written with no return address. Letterhead made from copy. No company address. US Airlines...no airline exists. Signed J Simms, Vice President....Vice President of what? Marketing, Sales, Operations? Or perhaps Joe B's alter ego. I may call just to have a bit of fun. But a call to the Attorney General's office is in order. SCAM.

    Bill
Got the letter and called the number and left message to tell them 1) their company doesn't exist and 2) they are all going to jail for fraud and that AR is on to them and they've been reported to attorney general and my FBI contact, and 3) they'd better never call me, write or contact me again.
My name is not Bill, but they did not use the name I go by so immediate red flag. Would be interested to know how they get their info?
