Left a message with my ex spouse to call if they knew me. If it is legit call they have my number directly. Don’t call people I don’t have interaction with!

Pre-recorded messages with various relatives saying if they are associated with me, they, or I need to call immediately! No reason listed, no company name listed. Reported to the FCC and BBB.

You reported a debt collection to the FCC?  Since they have absolutely no jurisdiction over those types of calls why did you report to them?  You must have lied about the type of call as well.  The BBB is a useless, worthless, toothless entity but in order to report the calls you must have known who the debt collector was and their address so why didn't you put that in your post as well?

    Doesnt matter
Called several relatives asking for me, left messages, called me numerous times & left voicemails. Called them back only to find out it’s a massive scam. Claimed to be a Court Mediator and that someone pulled a loan in my name years ago which the company is coming after me for nonpayment & extra fees. Had all of my old info, decent chunk of personal info & got extremely nasty MULTIPLE times. Gave a fake company name, refused to give any info on this “loan company”. Even screamed at me for trying to tend to my screaming babies instead of giving any card info right away. Made all appropriate authorities aware. Proper movements have been put in place by all agencies. I was Informed that information has been bought from data leak.

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off of the internet.

The fake process server/location specialist scam usually contains:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Looks like we all had the same experience. The woman I spoke with this morning said she was calling me due to an account that had reached their office. I called them, they never called me. I spoke with this company yesterday, after they called my brother and sister, the usual threatening tone, to give the appearance of something illegal going on. The woman I spoke with this morning actually provided a website, www.mediationac.org . Interesting, considering she told me she was from Account Recovery Service, and their main office is out of Buffalo, NY. Huge red flag there, a ton of debt collection scams are in Buffalo.
My sister told me they actually said "you need to pay it for your brother, otherwise we are just going to keep calling." I'll  be taking BigA's advice and I will file a complaint with the AG office. These people are more annoying than anything.

Thanks for that information.  I always thought that they were in New York and now you have confirmed it.  They have other names that they go by as well.  I now have something to tie them all together with.

I also tried calling the 833-498-1287 number on their website. The greeting was the same as 866-675-1682, "Account Recovery Service". Perhaps I should not have called 36 times yesterday. Then again, it was supremely entertaining.

Called my parents using a WV phone number.  Pre-recorded message saying they needed to talk to me.  Left the phone number of 1-866-675-1682.  So I called the number back.  Said they were "Accounts Recovery".  Guy said he was looking for me.  I said, speaking.  Wanted me to verify the last four digits of my SS number.  I said absolutely not.  Said they had complaints in their office about outstanding loans with Cash Net USA.  I informed the guy I didn't have any loans with them, those were paid in 2009!!!!!   He informed me of what I say isn't reality that I owed a debt.  So I had a few choice words for him, told him to never ever call my parents again and that I would be reporting them as scammers.
