The call was from Alere, a "Partners in Health" associate of ExxonMobil's health plan.  They've got something to sell or they wouldn't have bothered to call.  Nothing is free in life.......or death.

Alere used to be known as Matria before a merger.

They actually aren't selling anything. Insurance companies and various employers are now offering clients and employees condition or disease management programs where you can speak with a nurse, receive informational mailings etc.

So, Alere's services are techincally something that you've already paid for. If you're receiving a call from them its because you already have access to their programs, they just need to see if you actually want to participate in them.

You are right Tommy! My husband gets calls from a nurse to talk about anything health concerns or issued he's having.

I hung up as they asked for personal information.  Who would give out personal information to a caller that comes up unknown caller on your caller id?  I think we are afflicated with Alere but if they are this stupid I want nothing to do with them.

I get annoying calls from this number that has no response from the other end, when I pickup. Or no message is left, when we are not home.

Alere also works with the company my husband works for but neither of us are enrolled in their programs.  What happened to your medical issues being private?  Left a long message, but the caller's voice was so mumbled I couldn't understand a word of it!  If they want any info from us, they can send a self addressed, stamped envelope.  Then, maybe, I'll answer their questions.

The health privacy laws say they cannot give anybody your medical information without your specific, written permission, even family members, the last one why doctors' offices don't leave the information on your answering machine. It doesn't matter who it is.

Some guy from India I couldn’t understand left a message. I deleted it and will add another number to my call block.

Call is from Alere though I'm not sure why it would have been unsolicited. The only time I received calls from Alere was from my health coach at my request, after we had been working together via e-mail and chat for about six months. I did not receive/have not received any other calls, not even to inquire if I wanted to use the services available since the program is company/employer sponsored. I would definitely be wary of any calls that came out of the blue (even from Alere) if I had not made prior contact and being one of many options available is not a good reason to call me, if had I not already sought their services.

I advise not to use these sorts of services if you are in the USA. These services are fine in countries with national health insurance where health care is guaranteed. In the USA, private insurance companies may use the info gathered by these services to deny insurance coverage to you when you need it the most.

Received a call this morning from these guys. A nurse was calling on behalf of Blue Cross Blue Shield. I ignored the call and they left a voicemail message.
