- Jenny Wheeler| 8 repliesThreat to come to my home on Friday to serve me 4 Documents to sign in..
- Caller: Not Sure
- Mar B replies to Jenny WheelerI got the same threat from a MR Crowly. Tuff sounding dude. They called 3 days in a row looking for this Clarence J Johnson. They have been calling me for TEN YEARS looking for this guy. Not the same agency but even after telling them about this they continue to call me so IF I get another call I am writing the attorney general. I tell each one to Take MY # OFF whatever he did. Must have murdered someone or stole a few billion $$$ for keeping this up for so long. Come to my house and they will be in for a BIG surprise. All my accounts etc are tied to this # so I do not want to change and I have had it for 17 years.
- CWG40IF you call that number, the after-hours greeter ID's them as "Great Arrow Associates". They are supposedly located in the Eastern Time Zone.

In any event
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand.- Caller: Informational post
- Ann| 1 replyThe called me yesterday and again today Mr. Crowley he has been presented with documents for me and will be coming to my house tomorrow so I need to be there to receive them, or call 866-681-8774 to see what this is concerning. Didn't know bill collectors could threaten to come to your home. I thought they had to send you written notification of past due amounts.

- mona| 2 repliesGot a call from a gentlement saying he has a claim under my social security number and will be at my house tomorrow to sign for the claim. Says I need to call the office at 877-350-4988 and let them know if I going be home to sign for them. His name was Eric Bradley. what the heck!

- TDH| 6 repliesI just received a call from Great Arrow Associates from 833-279-1248. Mr. James Tyler. I am being "served" on 11/15 for a supposed payday loan. It is a scam. It is against the law to threaten to have papers served. I gave him the name of my attorney and told him to contact him. Total BS. Ignore them. Not legitimate

- Lisa replies to TDH| 3 repliesgot the same call 2 days in the row now. curious. did anyone ever show up at their house?
- Nope replies to Lisa| 2 repliesNo one showed up - it's a debt scam. Anyway, no one gets a heads up they'll be served - that's not how it works!
- Jane L. replies to TDHI received the same message on my Google voice. I didn't answer, but read the transcript of the message. Real service does not happen this way. Here's the WEIRD THING - they showed up as "No Caller ID" and "Unknown Number," which pretty much indicates they are spoofing numbers, which means they are scamming
- Lisa replies to Nope| 1 replydidn't show up at my home today either like they said. But my question is that is really a debt collector? their name doesn't say they are. I do know that real debt collectors that call you for valid reasons use harsh tactics such as this to get you to call back
- Gunnar replies to LisaNo Lisa, legitimate debt collectors do NOT use these kinds of tactics. "Why?" you might ask. Simple, it's ILLEGAL!
Scammers & "Buffalo Buffoons" use the tactics described in this thread. The reason being that they're attempting to defraud people of money for "debts" that are non-existent, invalid, time-barred or that they have no title to. By using these ploys these types of people prove that they're fraudulent. It's just as simple as that.
Be Safe. Be Aware.
