I called the number back. it is American Water. (guess it depends where you live because we have New Jersey American Water). I am writing a letter because I received a hang up call also.

this number 1 866 927 9020 belongs to IMC Sweepstakes... same crap differnt number. call this number back and they will take you off call list.

Called my cell phone, but when I answered they hung up. And of course that's a minute charge against my cell phone minutes -- it's aggravating.

They called my cell, didn't leave a messege.  I called them back, and I was told to disregard the call, and I must have been dialed in error since my water bill was zero...

On my phone it's American Warner.

American Water.. Complete jerks.  Call EVERY day. Despite me making an online payment which cost me an extra 1.80 processng fee, took them 5 days to post my payment because of "the holiday" MLK day. Then sent a guy w a shutoff letter even after I paid the shutoff amount.  Spoke with at least 8 people, each passing the buck.  One woman hung up on me!  The manager promised to take me off their call list. But they called again the next day.  Someone again sounding like the one who hung up said they will continue to call as long as I have a balance which is impossible because they don't post on time.. When I have paid by check it's even worse, they took 6 weeks to post because they had "no record" of my cancelled check and I had to fax them a copy..  My debit card number was stolen a week after their payment system crashed on me. Could this be them?  Ridiculous.  I'd file with the PA Public Utility Commission but they do nothing.  If I could switch my water supplier like any other utility I would..  They even let a water main leak on our front street continue to leak for 2 weeks because they "had to search for and mark out the lines."

I got a couple voicemails left on my cell. Computerized voice said it was PA american water and that i need to contact the water company at this number. when i called back, i got the autamated answering system for the water company payment department asking for my 10-digit acct #. i know my payments are up to date, so i hung up.

pay your water bill they will stop calling lol

Answered and got an automated message to call "American Water".

Not only do I NOT have American Water, it was my company phone.
I have no idea how they got my number or why they would be calling.

Another example of automation in the wrong hands.

A "payback lesson" might be a valuable lesson here - we should set up a process to flood their 866 # with automated responses.  :)
