I am acurrent employee of this company...the number to call is:
877-230-1314...the owner, who everyone there calls "BOSS", is named DAVE and he is at #5301...his wife is named LORENA and she works in Human Resources. They moved over this last weekend to new offices located in a dumpy building in Van Nuys on Friar Street, across the street from a PUBLIC PARKING lot...some kind of pucky yellow color with outside storefront signage covered in yellow paint as well...you could also ask for FRANK in sales or STEPHANIE...EVERYONE there uses aliases for their 'protection'...so if some guy named JOHN LAW or WILLIAM HAMMER calls to collect, the last name is supposed to scare or intimidate you. I have privy to info and have seen first hand on how these idiots do business, and I am afraid to report that all the negative things written on this monstrosity of a collection agency are very TRUE ! In fact, I challenge any and all people to prove me wrong...and this how I can prove I work for CII:

I will verify DAVES address where he keeps his race car in Ventura, California and also the opening SALES SCRIPT...it goes something like this:

" Let me speak to the owner or controller regarding an investigation, I will hold."  What investigation?!? That script is used in cold calling for leads...I know...I used to do it as well. They also have the practice of getting checks and not paying the CLIENTS their fair share...how do I know this? Because they get the checks and STAPLE them to the existing files...hoe do I know this? Because I watch the girls in AR do it all the time. I have also been apart of getting payments from CLIENTS in regards to LITIGATION and not doing anything else on the file because the whole point is to collect on the LITIGATION fee, that is where our leads on the floor want us to really push on. So if a company is owed 2500.00 and CII tries to collect it for them, what they really want is the LIT FEE. And in the above mentioned scenario could be as high as 1000.00. How do I know this? Because I have personally taken many of them for as much as I can get. They also have this weird little thing that they do...if the room is not noisy enough for them to believe you are working, they yell at you and the rest of your team to stand up from your desk...yes, that means you cannot sit down until either they say so or until a payment is taken...pretty childish I say. I wonder if they have good Workers Comp insurance because a few of those employed there could use Jenny Craig for Christmas, and the last thing they need is to be bending over at the waist to type notes on the file they are working because the company owner would much rather have money on the board rather than tend to the needs of his employees health at work...the building they moved into was so bad that one of the girls who sits in the front of the collection department was throwing up all day when rain water found itself a hole in the roof and caused the existing MOLD particles to become dislodged and permeate the air around her. They care nothing for us and our health, only the bottom line. I challenge the management to dispute this...remember DAVE and LORENA...your company is only as good as its employees. Try and hire a legitimate Collection and Sales TEAM, not a cut rate rag tag band of criminal gypsys.

I got a call from this #, they asked for My daughter.  I just got a new phone number.  My daughter doesn't even have this new phone number, how the heck did they get it? I don't have any bad debt out there, so they should not have any of my #s.  How do I get them to stop calling?

Nate - I hired Joseph, Stephens & Assoc. nearly 3 years ago to collect a $4000.00 debt. By comparing names and fax numbers, CII appears to be the same company.  They are very deceptive in their practices and procedures.  They will tell you all sorts of lies just to get your deposit and then do nothing.  We tried for almost a year to get some response and they actually harrassed ME as much as they seem to harrass the people they are going after.  You will never get a straight answer from any of them.  They promised I would recover my $750 deposit, all money owed me by my customer, and 3 times the amount of the bad checks they had also written to me.  They guaranteed I would have the matter resolved and my money in just a few months.  They do not tell you just how complicated and lengthy a process it will actually be.  They hire an attorney outside of their office to represent you.  You get a letter from that attorney telling you they are handling your case, but to direct all phone calls regarding your case to Joseph Stephens.  A call to the attorney yielded a surprising amont of info including the fact that they had not been contacted by JS & A  even though I was constantly being told by JS&A that they had been in constant contact with that outside attorney regarding my case.  They sent me a false Dunn & Bradstreet report.  There are over 200 Rip-Off reports regarding these people and not one comes online to say they have been successful in collecting through these people.  Because it never happens.  Some claim that even after they collect, the claimant never recieves their money for one reason or another.  Do any of these names sound familiar - Brenda Powers - Stephanie Lawson - Amanda Smith - Adi Adams - Emily Banks - Heather Green - Tiffany Love - Mark Cutter - George - They are all liars and very good at it.  You probably gave them a notarized power of attorney.  Have that order removed immediately.  Sadly, you will probably never get your $ back.  Contact the BBB, State Attorney General, Federal Trade Commission and Dunn and Bradstreet.  That's what I have done.  I wish you the best of luck.

Insider2008- Why the hell do you still work for these scam artists.  You admit to being one yourself.  Soon your paycheck will bounce, and they probably have not even been paying your payroll taxes, so no unemployment benefits for you.  Are they also connected with Joseph, Stephens & Associates?  They seem to share a fax number with these heartless scammers.

collecting from a collection agency? replies to Paul Hubbard
Wow you can do that. Maybe I should call my friend that owns a collection agency and gave me some insight when CII called me.  They have repeatedly violated the FDCPA.

Cool..  I guess I will call my friend.

I know this is a bit long but it can provide lots of useful information if you are being hassled by Commercial Investigations or any other Collection agency. Be informed, and know what it takes to protect yourself if you have to go that far.

Our personal experience with Commercial Investigations of Van Nuys California is much the  like all the complaints found on  http://www.ripoffreport.com,  http://www.complaintsboard.com, and https://800notes.com with regards to CII. If you are having issues with this company you may need to take the following actions and file complaints with the proper organizations.

    FILE A COMPLAINT
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/    File a complaint with the FTC.
http://www.la.bbb.org/Home.aspx           File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in LA.
    156 complaints as of 5/9/2009
Then contact your HOME state attorney general's office and file a complaint in their office.

SEE ALSO from the BBB site:

    BECOME VERSED ON SOME LAWS
You may also wish to become versed in the Fair Debt Collections Protection Act as well as the Fair Credit Reporting act. Wikipedia has some good links for this.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Debt_Collection_Practices_Act
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Credit_Reporting_Act
    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_a_collection_agency_sue_you

Some states might have additional requirements such as the agency must be licensed in the state in order to collect. So check your state web site or find an attorney.

    CONTACT AN ATTORNEY.
    http://www.naca.net/
    http://www.fairdebtlawyers.com/
    http://www.abanet.org/
Yellow pages or google would work as well.

CONSIDER A TAP on your line.
ONLY AFTER YOU CHECK THE LAW FOR YOUR LOCATION. Again you might want to consult with an attorney. But Radio Shack sells a phone tap for about 70$

Mad Dog John replies to FDCPA EDUCATED
The bums suckered me in for 850.00, should have known better, they refused a check from a credit card company, only would take a personal check.  They called wanting another grand, but their lies and deceit was noted as I have taken notes during every conversation and their stories didn't match.  When I asked for a faxed guarantee for my receiving my debt the sap on the other end said he would send a copy of a couple of $100 dollar bills in his wallet.  The've been leading me on for over a year, but at least they only got $850.00.  I have friends in the FBI and am placing a call to them to see if any federal trade laws have been violated by this scam group.  I will also file a complaint with the california attorney general and the FTC in San Francisco. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
