    Thanks Scott. Very helpful information. Why bother posting if all you have to say is that you were called? You're a one man, crack, SAS unit.

    Possible phishing. Obtained letter from with this number that I owed money to Amex. I do not owe them money. When I called number and they asked for my SS I would not give it to them. They looked up my name & address and suddenly I was not on record. I had spoken to the real Amex prior and I was on record. SCAM!

    Maybe they were satisfied to get your name and address--an addition to their list for sending junk mails. :{

    Called the AMX 800 number to make sure this is a valid Amx number.  They said it was and transferred me to the 866-703-4169.  Sounded like I was transfered to India.  They asked me what the message says and I told him it tells me to call this number.  We have not had an account with them in over 2 years.  They said they would take my phone number off the list.  We shall see!  I get 4 calls a day!

    Clearly spam. The person claimed himself to be AMEX fraud protection and he said there’s a card created with my name in China. Then he offered to help me connect with China local police — which is clearly impossible because China police department never take calls like this and it’s already China nighttime. He called himself Steven Johnson, but he has a strong Indian accent.

    Same, this guy called today and said someone used my card to purchase illegal stuff. And there was a card created with my name in China. He wanted to transfer me to his senior manager and decided how to proceed with enforcement. This is BS, his accent is hard to understand.

    Repeated, back to back calls from this number. I have never had an AmEx card in my life and monitor my credit report regularly for any fraudulent accounts opened in my name. Seems like they're spoofing a legit number to attempt to get information from you.

    It is a valid AMEX number, but scammers also know it is and might spoof it to trick a victim. Calling the number should be ok, since it is published on their websites.

    8667034169 is scam
    I’ve recently received several calls from these numbers: 800-446-6307, 866-703-4169, and 877-221-2639. At first, I thought they were scams, so I ignored them. This afternoon, I happened to answer a call from 800-446-6307. The person on the line had an accent and said there was “unauthorized payment activity” in China and someone opened a new account under my name. But I only have one AMEX card from about three or four years ago.

    They told me to stay on the line while they connected me with their security department, but the call got disconnected. I looked up the number and found it was an official AMEX number, but I know scammers can spoof caller IDs. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is this a scam or is someone really using my information?

    I called AMEX customer service and confirmed I don’t have any other cards or active applications, and there are no unauthorized charges on my account. So it seems to be a scam. Thanks, everyone!
