Message left on work VM from this number, I could not make out the name but it was something like Afnee. They said it was an attempt to collect a debt. Anyone have more information?

I received a call, also.  Company is located in Bloomington, IL.  That's all I know.

I don't know who these people are. But, they called and left a message for me at my son's school. I don't work, so how they figured out where he goes to school is unknown to me!

These ghetto folks left a message for me on my daughters phone who lives 3,000 mils away, mumbled that they were from AFNE or something similar. I have on open debts or any accounts under any collections, these clowns need to stop harrassing people.

calling place of business and asking for a person that does not work here will not explain why thay are calling

A man by the name of Cortlin called our office to ask for one of our employees but would not tell the receptionist what the call was about. The receptionist asked him what it was reagarding only to have him reply " Lets just say if he doesnt call me back im going to have to keep on calling everyday until i speak with him".. From what i read online, it is Illegal for a collection agency to contact someone at their place of work if they are not authorized by the person they are trying to collect from. You can sue them for $1,000.00 for each law they break.

Called asked for Stephen somebody...told them wrong number. Asked if I have good # to reach him. Said have no idea who he is. Asked what about Pamela...said it is a relative & call because listed as reference. Said have no relatives or anyone by those names. Asked him what # he called. 3 digit prefix he said he called was wrong #.

Between 1/11/12 and 2/1/12 we received 39 calls from this phone number looking for someone with the same last name. Sometimes these calls were 2 hours apart. We didn't answer the phone because it was an 866 number.

Got a call from a Ron Anderson from AFNI regarding a car loan that I had. I informed him that we had retained a bankruptcy attorney in January. I gave him the attorney information and he was surprisingly polite. We'll see if my number actually gets removed like he said.

Received a call from an Eric at AFNI who was looking for one of our partners. Did not say what the call was in reference to but when the partner returned the call it turned out to be from a collections agency.

Do not know these people,however they are harassing to the max. Looking in to reporting them to the police.

Collections for a car loan.  Called for an ex-employee several times.  Keeps calling anyway.

Oh how wonderful!!  Another new phony debt collector (or should I just say scamming thief) now has my number and no doubt will continue to call about a debt that either doesn't exist or isn't mine.  It's all a scam to threaten you into providing a credit card number and/or personal information, i.e., SS#.

Thank God for call blocking devices.  I've had mine for just under a year and a half and already have 464 numbers that have been blacklisted and will never bother me again.

I have been through this type of call before and therefore do not answer calls from area codes that I do not recognize.
There scam runs something like this, they are looking to make a connection like a child's student loan or using the name of a local bank.  Once they make that connection they try to con you into believing that your are about to be sued for non-payment of a debt.  However, they can stop the suit if you pay them.

Do not send money.  If you think that any call like this could be true in your situation,  verify that the company exist and then call that yourself.  If the debt was real the company would have sent you something via US Mail.  More than likely a certified letter.  This is cheaper that hiring another company to collect the debt.
