Was given a name (Dave) and a reference number and asked to return the call. Was asked for SSN - I was stupid and gave it to them without asking who I was speaking with first. Then was asked about someone I didn't know (same last name - different first name). They said they would remove my number from the list. Collections maybe? Not sure how they got my number though.

they also called my work# and left a message with a ref#.  His name was Tom.  I called the phone# back, and it didn't say a company name.  Very weird to me.  I'm not calling them back!!  I googled this # and it shows it's a company to restore your credit.  Which is very strange, I signed up for a first premier credit card recently.  They said it's for people trying to fix their credit.  Anyone else have this happen to them?

they called and it said "this is Tersa and gave my ref#.I didn't call them back.The left the message on aug.17th.I will not return there call.They didn't ask or tell how they were looking for in the message.Also,check you bank accounts alot b/c there is alot of scams going on.Never give personal info on the phone.

It's a collection agency called "General Revenue Corporation".  They collect on defaulted student loans.  If you don't have a student loan, most likely you were used as a reference by someone who does and has let their loans go into default.

I too was contacted by this number.  The post from "Joe Blow" on 11/20 makes sense.  This person may be in default on a student loan, and probably did use me as a reference.  Just as with the other posts, the woman on the phone gave me her name, but would not tell me WHY she was calling me.  She asked me to have Jane Doe (a friend of mine) call her.  I told her that if she was unable to tell me what her call was in regard to, that I could not pass on any information or messages.  If she wanted to speak with Jane, she should call her directly.
