My sister in a different state got a call from someone at ARS name Rebecca at ext 3672 demanding that she tell them my phone number.  (I've had the same phone number for over 5 years.) My sister refused because she was rude but got her name and phone number and passed it onto me.  I have no idea who this is and I will not be returning the call.

A computerized male voice left a voice mail stating they are not a telemarketing firm, and that they're looking for a Chalon James and for that person to call Depak Early (I think that's the name they gave) at 866-725-4895, and reference file #14156266.  They keep calling over and over again and you never get a person to talk to so you can tell them to stop calling.

The parents got a call on their answering machine from a "Shawn" fella at X 3693.  Company is called ARS, but I hung up before having anyone answer.  Alleged file reference #14729210...

If it's important, he's calling and reaching that answering machine enough that they pass this pinhead my cellphone number.

Supposedly, ARS is a collection agency.  I had two freebie credit reports left to use before September and used one to find out what *might* be in collections.  Nothing is on there of note.

Maybe they found something like a debt I paid off from collections and are trying to be sneaky and collect on it again.  I have had that once and laughed at that particular company since all they offered as proof of my debt was their postcards being sent to me....even after I provided the info of the account I paid off, the amount of the pay off, and the date of said account being paid off.  They went away soon thereafter letting Cingular in on it.

Collection companies don't just make money from buying debts at a discount rate and then collecting the full amount plus "fees"... they also are able to profit from selling unreachables to other collection agencies... there is nothing to stop a company from collecting on your debt, and then turning around and selling that same debt to another company!

My wife got a call from these people, stating something was very important [didn't say what]. Then they were rude when I called and asked them what was up.

operator "connected" me to the caller.  She wanted me to verify my social security number.  When I told her that I NEVER give out my SSN over the phone, she gave me a whole song and dance about how they won't release my file until I give them my SSN.  I told them not to call me anymore because I would never release that info on the phone.  I still keep getting messages. I have reported them to the police.

I received two calls from ARS @ 866-725-4895. The first one was a voicemail message, referring to a file number but nothing specific. Yesterday, I received a call while I was getting ready for work. The "operator" put me on hold to connect me with someone else. The person identified themselves as being from ARS. I told the person I was busy getting ready for work and to identify why they were calling. They got rude with me, telling me the call was being taped for later review ... and that they were calling because there was an open balance with Discover card for ~$2K but that Discover was willing to settle the account for $1200! Right! I told them that I did have a Discover card but the balance was no where near $2K. They pushed. I told them I did not have my paperwork and that I would call back when I had it. They wanted to know WHEN I would call back and I told her later that day (yesterday). Today I Googled the phone number and found this string of calls from 866-725-4895. Needless to say, they are not going to get a call back from me.

I searched on ARS Collections and found this, http://www.arswillcollect.com/

The web site gives this number, 866-423-0389

    Their FAQ says:

    Q. Are you able to find people?
    A. Yes. Our account managers will find most individuals. We are equipped with the latest in skip trace software.

I think the skip trace software turned up your name change and contact information. It's not surprising that the skip trace software would turn up a few false matches. Their agents are trying to collect on bad debts and are dealing with people who won't want to be found and don't want to deal with the problem. So it's not surprising that the agents will act as though they are dealing with a difficult customer.

I sent an email to info@arswillcollect.com on 5/24/2008 saying, "I think your skip trace software came up with a false match. Does 866-725-4895 belong to you?"

    Haven't gotten a response.

Got another call and talked to them again and said I thought there had been a false match from their skip trace software. The guy said he needed the last 4 digits of the SSN to verify. I told him I wasn't going to give that. I told him that my wife thinks they are running a scam.

He hung up on me. I don't know if he hung up because I wouldn't give the partial SSN, or because I said we thought they might be running a scam.

You'd think a legit company would handle the situation differently.

Supposedly, my parents got another call from a "Lilly" at ARS.  The word is now that the are "getting close to making a decision about me" and that they "have been looking for me since February".

Well, the first post I made about ARS was March 6, so who nows.

I checked the last of my three freebie credit reports today and it's on the other browser window...nothing there in collections.

I e-mailed them and have heard nothing back so far.

Received a message for my mother, who lives in a different state than I do. Asked for me to give her a message but when I refused unless they told me what the call was regarding, she got rude, lecturing me about adult's having private business. Again she demanded to get in touch, I refused again, and she made some smart remark and hung up on me.

I've gotten dozens of phone calls from these people, and I do believe it is a total scam! I don't think that this company is a very good one. I get 20-30 calls from them a week, I'm ready to change my number and have it unlisted.

I got an "Unknown" caller and let it skip to voicemail. A man left a message, not identifying what he was calling for or who he was calling for, saying that he's trying to get ahold of me because of a file on his desk and some concerns about what I was involved in. He left 866-725-4895 ext 3140 as his callback number.

It freaked me out until I googled and found this page.
