[***] telemarketers from pakistan. - LenReceived calls from this number on May 1st @ 5:40 PM and May 3rd @ 11:51 AM. If you have an answering machine, record a nice long hymn like "Kneel at the Cross" by the Charlie Daniels Band or any song you like. When the next call comes in from this number, capture the call with your machine and let it play away. You have just successfully tied up their outgoing line for over four minutes. When they go to make a new call, they will still be hearing "Kneel at the Cross".
Time is money for these folks and the longer you can prevent them from making another call, they better. - LENYour telephone system is a device that understands only two commands. Much like a light bulb in your home. It is either “OFF” or “ON”. When a phone call is placed, the sending device is ”on”. When your phone rings, your receiving device is ”off”. It is when you pick up your handset that you have a sending and receiving device that are both ”on” and the circuit is complete. Now packets of information can be sent from one device to the other and vice-versa.
If the sending device is turned “off” ( the person hangs up), your telephone, the receiving device is still sending packets of information (albeit silent air waves) to the sending device and will only stop sending these packets when you turn your telephone off. As soon as the sending device is turned back “on” it will receive the packets of information that you have been sending it. The circuit is reestablished and complete. Both of the devices are capable of sending and receiving packets of information again. In other words; both telephones have to be “off” before a new circuit can be established by either one of them.
If you are so inclined, when you receive a phone call from a telemarketer or scam artist; all you need do is pick up your handset to complete the circuit. You can “mute” and set your handset on the counter and go watch a movie. The calling device is now captured and is unable to place another call until you decide to break the circuit by hanging up your handset.
Very simple, very effective.
Every time we can disrupt their ability to place calls; the fewer we will receive.
We cannot depend on “do not call” lists to protect our privacy.
WARNING: The practice of “capture and hold” may be illegal in your state or province.
Use your good judgement and exercise due diligence.
Your service provider will advise you that your phone is “off the hook” and will ask you to “hang up”. I strongly recommend you follow that advice. Remember, telephone service providers earn billions of dollars by selling toll free numbers and access rights to your telephone.
