Message saying they are United Health Care with an important prescription refill reminder.  They left a different # to call back with a reference number. I am a member of UHC but never in the 11 years I have been a member did I receive such a call.

    >> so much for the do-not-call registration. <<

The DNC list does not automatically block calls.  Instead, it provides a list of  "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.

The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations,  charities and companies with preexisting business relationships, but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).

The DNC list  is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
Its purpose is to stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.

    Here is your reading assignment:
    https://www.donotcall.gov/
    http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resource ... try/enforcement

Remember, the Do Not Call site is a good one to report unwanted calls from LEGITIMATE telemarketers.  The DNC list does not cover calls from criminal scammers & spammers.  To report those, visit https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

If you receive calls even after reporting them (and waiting a sufficient time), then you should consider using a call blocker app, device or service as your first line of defense.  Google "call blocker" to see such things at Amazon or other sites.

We are United Health Care customers, so this may have been a legitimate call from their mail pharmacy.  If so, it is terribly unprofessional because the caller ID simply says "800 Service", making them appear like a phone spammer.

I am in process of selecting a health care policy and UnitedHealth care is one of the candidates.  I have read the posts below.  Now that are calling me, sometimes leaving a message and sometimes not.  The messages want me to give them my name and dob, which I am concerned that it is a scam.  As in other posts, I get a call from one number and they want me to call another number.

United Health Care has become a major, meddling pest. Constant calling, wanting to send nurses to your home for checkup (I have one every year, so needless). Now, they just left an incredibly long message about wanting my date of birth, etc. for some ridiculous prescription. Why is this even necessary? I have a single prescription and it is automatically filled by Walgreen's. I just do not want to talk to people I do not know since there are so many scammers. Surely, there is a better way to handle this (by email, for example).
    • Caller: United Healthcare (supposedly)

Unfortunately, if you eligible for Medicare, your phone and snail mail will be inundated yearly.  To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to stop this stuff.  I have been retired and on Medicare for 9 yrs. and the number of wasted minutes and trees is incredible.  If anyone has any idea how to stop this, please let us know.

Heaven help us, getting older makes us targets for all sorts of scams and campaigns to take our money.  UnitedHealthcare is sponsored by AARP, but there are many others that attack seniors at the beginning of the medical health supplement enrollment period.

got a call from 866-764-3967 and for some reason I answered!  I usually don't do that.  I was told it was UHC and that one of my Rx was out of refills.  They asked me to confirm that they had the right person and asked my date of birth which I gave them.  After hanging up I called UHC direct and they called my pharmacy and verified that I am NOT out of refills.  So I Googled the # and now I am on this site.  What jeopardy am I in now since I did give my DOB.  What should I do not?  Any suggestions will be appreciated!

It is indeed UHC reminding us to refill our prescriptions! I guess this may be an important service for some people, but for us it is nothing but a bother!

Nan, I'd call UHC and tell them about the prank call and that the caller has your birthday.   You might was to try your state's Attorney General's office and report it. They should keep track. Good Luck!

I'm sick and tired of UHC although I'm a customer of them. I'm on Flomax as a maintenance medication, cost only $2 per month and UHC keeps bugging me to get it from their mail pharmacy, supposedly cheaper. The system with my local pharmacy works fine, I see the doctor once a year and get prescriptions for a year, no need to change anything. Anyway I have a call blocker and they're on the permanent sh*t list now.

Send them a C&D by certified return receipt USPS mail telling them to stop calling..  Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

This IS a prescription refil reminder message from United Healthcare. I called the number indicated in the message, was given the names of both medications and was asked if I had Refilled them ... 1 for yes ... 2 for now. When I indicated no, the recording reminded me of how important taking my prescriptions is to my health and told me to call my pharmacy to refil. It was a legitmate phone call. Not a scam.

This is not a UHC call.  They are a scammer trying to get your personal information should you decide to call them back.  If you have UHC, please call your CS number on your insurance card and report this incident for their information and tracking and by all means report these types of calls to the FCC and/or your local cyber police unit for F/U.

Robo-call CID of "TOLL FREE"; message identifies it as UHC wanting to verify a couple of bits of information.  My scam alert detector pegged the needle on that one.  Calls that I've gotten from UHC say so in the CID.

Anent the "Housecalls" program--it isn't about your health.  UHC is imbursed more by Medicare when they pay for treatment of so-called "high risk" individuals.    So it's important to them (financially) that you land on this list.  That they can make this determination by a home visit by a nurse-practitioner (I'm assuming at least that) is downright amazing.
