866-796-8234 some one called and left this number on my voice mail. I called them back and they said I am being pursued for a bad check that I wrote. This check is over a year old I did not think they could still come after me for that.

My husband received a call from someone the other day saying they needed to drop off some info to our house. They were vary vague with their information and would not tell him what it was for. They gave this phone number and said they could answer any questions. He never called them and late last night we received paper work at our front door about a law suite. This was for a small accident my husband was in several months ago. We decided to call the number they gave him on the first phone call and they said there was nothing they could do because we already received our notice.

I just got a call from an investigator asking to confirm my address and said they wanted to drop off some paper work and wanted to know if I was going to be home. They said I could call 866-796-8234 to find out more details. I called them and they said I have a case in pre litigation. Apparently we borrowed some money and could not pay it back a couple years ago and now they are coming after us. They said we could work out arrangements to pay it back or take our chances in court. Can they come after us like that??

Hi Jessica...I just got the same attitude from a Patrick there and yes they can, what they did not tell you is showing up in court means you still have rights and can present your case...it does not mean the court will automatically rule against you unless you just don't show up. Personally, I'm gonna show up in court and let the judge handle it.

I have a question...I know these people threatened lawsuit pending...but have anyone had them actually show up at your door or are they just using illegal debt collection practices??? Please post if you have actually been served by this company. thank you

Did you check that the "summons" was legitimate?  Call the court listed on the papers?  No one is given a heads up that they're being served, at least not with legitimate companies.

My girlfriend received a call from this number. They harassed her for two days straight, saying they were collecting a debt she had defaulted on. Then a woman named "Mary Johnson" called and said she was bringing over "paperwork" because my girlfriend was being sued. We called this number back and spoke with "Lorenzo Parker" who said she had until the end of the day to clear the matter up. The original loan was $2200.00, Mr. "Parker" said it could be settled for $631.56. This was a loan my girlfriend made from Cash Call in 2008 and it was paid in full in 2010. This "company" uses scare tactics to try and wring money from unsuspecting people. Do your homework and know your credit history before you deal with these con artists, and DO NOT give them any money!

Allison, I posted on this site a while back and just recently got back on her. I did get a court order and did eventually go to court. I know that I wrote the check and did not have the money in my account and  unfortunately could not pay it back. They did not care about my hard ship and the judge awarded them and they won. They say I now have a judgement (not sure what that means). So to answer your question yes I did go to court thinking the judge would plead with me because I lost my job back then. He did not care.

Somewhere out there, even years ago, you must have had something that was unpaid and now they are attempting to collect!  They will not stop until you are served with a litigation papers and you appear in court.  They will most likely give you an option to settle out of court for a reduced amount.

Doubtful - if you're gonna be served with REAL documents, a legit legal service will not call you ahead of time to warn you.  Everyone should do their due diligence: ask for copies of the checks, of the "court order," and everything else. Ask for these to be mailed - and if they're legit, they'll already have your mailing address so do NOT give it to them.

Also, the posting the same thing under different names kinda lends that air of shilliness to your posts. Just sayin'.

I see, so you crooks will settle for, say, half the money your victims don't owe, instead of all the money they don't owe?

    What a deal!

Then I got down on my knees and cried and cried.  The judge threw the book at me.  It was a very heavy book.  Then the bailiffs tasered me and clocked me with their billy clubs.  I cried and cried some more.

    Then I woke up.

I'll tell you a little secret about process servers.  They have trouble finding people.  The last thing they are going to do is warn you they are coming.

I got a call too and they gave me the number of 866-796-8234 to call back to find out what is going on. I did call and they said we could go to court or work the situation out with them. My husband called and attorney and he wanted more money then what we owed so we called them back and just went ahead and set up payments. These things suck but what else could we do.

Well, for starters, you could demand that they MAIL (not email or fax) a debt validation letter proving that the debt is yours and that they are licensed to collect in your state.  This is a legal requirement per the FDCPA - read about it and learn your rights as a consumer.

If you aren't a shill for these scammers, then I have to think at best, you're really naive.  You don't just go ahead and pay someone who's harassing you via phone about a debt that most likely you don't even owe!

Bottom line - no proof of debt = no debt owed!
