- UnknownReceived call saying capital one is taking me to court to SUE me for money as I had an account I opened and never paid them. I asked for verification and details to be emailed and he said no I will find out in court when sued. He tried to get money out of me to pay him and I said absolutely not. I've purchased homes and have my credit report. This is a SCAM FRAUD.

- M| 1 replySaid they were an employment verification company called CMJ or CMG. I asked several times what the call was pertaining to and why they were calling me. Eventually they admitted they were a debt collection agency, and that they were trying to collect a debt from a credit I never had, their records said this debt was from 15 years ago and they were going to sue me if i didn't settle with them. They got very angry and pushy and tried using an address that I haven't lived at for over fifteen years to verify that they were legit. Definite SCAM do not give any information or payment to this company.

Received a call instructing me or my lawyer to call 866-814-0771 to settle a claim with CMT, they proceeded to list an account number.
The first time I called back from a phone other than my own, the person hung up on me after I asked who he was and which company he worked for - as he didn’t not ID himself or the company.
I called back and spoke to a who told me she was an operator, she also refused to tell my who she was, who she worked for and wanted my personal information. I told her as a consumer, I had the right to know who the company is, she said to me “what’s the problem then, go back to work, and mind your own business… is there a problem?!” She went on to call me a horrible customer etc.
This is clearly a fraudulent company.
I researched the company and phone number, it all smells fishy.- Caller: 8668140771

- LF replies to MUsually, to the best of my knowledge, if a creditor cannot collect a debt and no payment has been made for four years or more, it is considered "outlawed" ... in other words, although they can peruse collection efforts, they cannot take legal action such as suing the debtor. Once you make payment, even a small token payment, the clock starts running again. I am not an attorney and this is not to be construed as legal advice, but years ago I worked in finance and this is the way it was in California and perhaps in other states. Collection laws may have changed so it is always prudent to consult with an attorney if one does in fact owe a debt to find out what legal remedies the creditor may still take.
