got the same call, and automated message saying that I had an overdue account with UPS... Fraud as I don't deal with UPS and don't even have an account with them... I have filed a report with the local RCMP about this scam.

Same thing happened to me.  Don't have a UPS number and I have not sent or received anything to Canada.  Message is a recorded one that says I owe Canadian Customs Duties.  These guys have to be scammers.  Caller ID is Unknown Number with Unknown Person.  I am not going to waste my time calling them back.

I got a call from this number about an unpaid UPS bill and called them back with my VISA number. After giving it some thought I called VISA to see if this was a scam but they said they could see the transaction and verified to me that the merchant code was legitimate. I am planning to call UPS back to send me a written receipt to set my mind at ease. VISA basically told me this didn't sound suspicious to them.

They're legitimate. I called them back, and I gave them an invoice number that I had, and they verified what the contents of the package I got were with that invoice number. It's UPS - they delivered something to me a month ago, I paid for it, and now they're trying to charge me more for it because apparently they were two separate shipments.

Message left on my answering machine...."This is UPS...if I Have reached the Accounts Payable Office please press 1...this message will repeat...and it did! Called UPS....I have no outstanding debts and they are reporting the call!

called and got the details sorted out...
looked suspicious but in the end it was accurate.

I also can confirm this as being legitimate. I received an "outstanding amount due" bill from UPS. I had paid the postage at the door, but the credit card number was keyed in improperly so a month later they come to me asking for the amount. I received the bill and the phone calls at the same time, called them and made the payment, received the confirmation number. They were able to describe the details of the shipment.

UPC account payable department called about outstanding Customs fees for parcel received from USA.

Same as Greg. They could immediately look up my account with no other information except my account/invoice number. They theorized that the driver keyed in the wrong credit card info.

By the way, they charged me $34 CDN customs on a $60 USD book. So, the call wasn't a scam, but the way UPS operates is definitely a scam!

UPS is a kind of scam. Canada duties are bigger scam ! We live in a world full of scams and of course full of [***].

Yah sounds like UPS, as I never had this issue till I received a package for the states. So now they send me a bill. I ignore it, and after what 5 years they will too. I never told them to clear it so too bad for them.

I had a similar experience. I received a shipment from UPS (duties. Ordered in the U.S and delivered in Canada) at home and as I understand it, I don't get the package unless I pay on the spot - which I did. Can't remember if it was cheque/visa. Pretty cheque. This was a couple of months ago. Now, they're claiming I didn't pay and my cheque is floating around somewhere and they're telling me to pay and if they double charge they'll reimburse me. Not that I don't believe them but why should I put myself in a position to chase them for money as far as I'm concerned I gave them already? Is it my problem they misplaced the cheque?

I called them and they couldn't really tell me the situation. I suggested they run a trace with the driver but were reluctant. I'm sorry. I feel this is unacceptable. Now they're after me but I want answers first.

Any suggestions?

I keep getting a phone call from this number. It is an automated message saying "This is UPS...if I Have reached the Accounts Payable Office please press 1..." I hang up every time. But once I called back, it said my call could not be completed as dialed. I do not think this is a legitimate number at all.

This is in fact UPS calling but I wouldn’t exactly call it a legit call. They deliver a package and then a month or so later send a bill for additional fees that the receiver knew nothing about. I wouldn’t call that legit by any stretch.

If anything, it just goes to show how crooked UPS is.

I got the same thing, only I recieved an invoice in the mail first stating that I owe 21.87 in brokerage fees, then started receiving the calls. Calling the number wont do anything, its an outbound number only with an automated message. I dont mind paying the fees, but it seems sketchy. The invoice gives no "accepted methods of payment" or even anything saying who to make a check payable to, therefore it seems the only way I can pay it is in cash, which I dont like because theres no transaction record. I have noticed however, since I got this bill, I havnt been recieving orders from overseas, and almost think that customs is holding them for "ransom" (the amount I owe)

they said i owed (ball park here..) 98 bucks.

Oh so you can just pay us 28 they say... sure I say.... show me an invoice...(which took days)

Not only were the actual customs (GST) charges higher than I originally paid by about $10, they wanted to increase their fee also!!  Needless to say i was having none of that.

I paid the increased customs fees, nothing more.

I still get calls.

Lesson learned.

This was a legit call, customs fees are kinda crazy, but they did verify tracking numbers and other info
