- bruce| 3 repliesOn my cell, had 10 -- yes 10-- recorded, all the came in a few days. saying they wanted to help me redo student loans, of which i ain't got none. Cost me 10c per call left. This may be same company as 1-888-837-6192.. that's what Google turned up from my initial inquiry for the 866
- Caller: Financial Assets Mgmt
- Tamianth replies to bruce| 1 replyFor a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

Google lookup of name (in female voice) who IDs self as from Financial Asset Mgmt Systems, turns up legit looking website and all kinds of accrediations with BBB and others. So wassup? - bruce replies to bruceAnother one today, so bit bullet, and called these folks today on the 866 number. They were quite polite, apologetic, promised too immediately remove my cell and home from list. Also let me talk to supervisor, equally polite etc.
Said often cells are reassigned if pvs subscribed drops service - mine was new about 15 mos -- quite likely and gave me name on their list for my number, which did not match.
Overall, a pleasant experience when i had anticipated worse.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
