This number called me saying they have a claim against me from a payday company and if I didn't respond I would be served papers to go to court. Can they do this? Difference between this call  and other scammers is they were American.

I got a call from a restricted number from a Becky Smith and they told me they were going to do send investigators to my house if I didnt comply! So they gave me another number call....which was this one.  They gave me a person and an extension.  She explained to me that the company would settle for a small amount of the account.  She recommended it would be best to be paid with a prepaid debit card.  Im thinking OK so far she didnt ask for my checking account information.  I would have hung up.  But still im not convinced.  I asked them where are you located, and they told me New York state.  Im thinking....didnt they just get hit with a hurricane?!!?!?  How in the heck do they have telephone capability?  the reps reply was....."the storm didnt affect our area".

I recommend calling the original creditor and have them give the name of the collection company they referred your case to.  There will be a long list of referals.  A red flag will come up if the company doesnt match.

Should you survive this ordeal, there should be one bit of advice that helped me and should help everyone.  DONT GET A PAYDAY LOAN OVER THE INTERNET!!!!!!! MOST OF THESE COMPANIES ARE BASED ON INDIAN RESERVATIONS AND MAY/MAY NOT COMPLY WITH CODES REGARDING CONSUMER PROTECTION!!!!   IF I CANT DRIVE TO A BRICK AND MORTAR FACILITY TO GET BUSINESS DONE, THEN IT IS NOT A BUSINESS----IT IS A SCAM!!!!!!!
