Called saying he (Marvin) was with social services and wanted to discuss my mother's (she is 76 and has alzheimers) medicare acct. Not sure if I should discuss anything with this guy. Any advice?

received a call at my parents: saying they can get the cost of medicare removed from the soc sec checks- my mom let me know of this- i am only guesing they may be able to do this but seriously doubt it will be free -guessing telemarketers selling insurance so one cn elimainate the medicare paymnet from their soc sec ck or a flat out sham. the oerson wa as well a social services coordinater - named : ms brooks.........
and ext 4549. how can they ALL be coordinaters?

If you want to be sure, I would look in the phone book or online and get a number for Medicare and call them.  Ask if it's a legitimate call - there are too many scams around not to check.  They should be able to tell you.

I am a State Health Insurance Counselor, I don't work for any insurance company but am a Medicare certified counselor.  We just started seeing these calls in our area.  I have called this number back and ,when they don't hang up on me or refuse to answer my questions, it turns out they are a "social services" company that works in conjunction with certain health insurance companies.  I, personally would not give them any information.  If you are on Medicare and/or have a Medicare Advantage plan, you have phone numbers to contact your health insurance company and talk to them.    I would not be giving my information to these people.  They go by the name "My Advantage"  in Arizona.  You can always talk to a SHIP counselor in your area for free, unbiased help with Medicare and Medicaid.

This is a legitimate company working with United Health Care (in my area) to help people with the cost of their medicare.  I called United Health Care to verify who they are.

SHIP   If you don't know what you're talking about, stand down.  This is most certainly a legitimate company and work with United Health to reduce or assist with living expenses, reducing some insurance premiums.

They called and they said that they could save money on part A,Cand D S.S insurance.

Deanne, I checked with UHC and they do not recognize the 866-865-3851 number along with the many extensions. This is a scam and you may be part of it.

Number on caller ID was totally different number that the person left on VM.  Called from 216 area code which is not the numbers listed for UHC

218-206-8221 called and Brandon left a voicemail to call back the subject number at extension 2651.  He asked for me by name and he knew (or guessed) that I'm insured with United Healthcare.  However, as far as I can tell, neither of these numbers is associated with United Healthcare or any other business with a web presence.  I suspect this operation has a way of somehow putting 2 + 2 together to gain confidence.

Thank you, I also took the high road by calling Medicare. Just to many scams out there. Not taking the chance. If I need something, I go to the Source!

I had them call representing themselves as my supplemental insurance with my Medicare. They asked all kinds of personal questions saying they had benefits they could help me with. One guy said I was eligible to have my premium waived if I provided a bunch of personal info including bank statements, Medicare card, tax info.... When he sent me the email it didn't come from United Healthcare,  it was "Change Insurance ". I called United Healthcare  and found out they were NOT calling me. It was for sure a scam. Beware!

My 79 yr old mother received a call from this number. My sister and I repeatedly asked our mother did she provide personal information. Although she (mom) said no, my sister and I beg to differ. I called the number at ext 4779. Initially the recording says they're United Health Care. But the person whose ext I dialed said she was with a company name "My Advocate". Left a message for "Shaniqua" to call me back; doubt if I receive a call back.  Wondering if you can report them to the State's attorney general office?.....
