- More than annoyedThis woman called Tracy Bain at exention 1128 has been harassing my daughter at work and at her grandfathers house in which she does not live.
I called to get the address so I can file a complaint and they actually tried to tell me that it is my daughters fault that they are harassing us.- Caller: Phillips & Cohen

- annoyedSeveral phone calls, daily. First person I talked to threatened arbitration, I made payments of 150 or so every month for about 3-4 months, after initially paying 400 to "keep the account open from arbitration". Only did this because parents suggested it would be best. I was originally skeptical because this debt comes up after I went and called any and all debt collectors on my credit report in an attempt to clear things up and called Ebay directly (it's a paypal credit card), and this came 1/2 a year later. I refused to pay. I requested clearly marked mail, which never came. It looks like spam mail when it finally did come. I've been directed to at least 3 different people, each never accepting reduced payments (it's all I can afford) and threatening arbitration. Received an arbitration notice in the mail. I complied. Then didn't hear back, so my dumb self actually returned one of their calls. Was told it's no longer in arbitration, their "client" is now perusing heavier measures but they'd cut my 3k bill down to 1.9k if I could pay it that day. They harass my grandmother and ask if she'd be willing to pay it for me, or take out a loan or something since I just refuse to talk to them / pay them until something's sorted out. Seemed fishy from the get-go.

- GiGi replies to chris| 1 replyWhat ever happened to the person or people who could not pay Philips and Cohen Assoc on behalf of Advanta Bank for their debt? We owe them over $10K and this is a business account and we have NO money or way to pay this debt. Our situation is much like so many in America...lack of business and self employed with no money to pay debts and no stimulus check to depend on. BANKS do not want to lend money and our credit went from 750 to under 600 in a matter of months. ANY advise out there to help deal with these folks?
- Patrick replies to vitaJean,
Advanta was taken over by the Feds...period. Why they turned over these accounts to these Jersey loosers is unbelievable.
Advanta was crooks. They know it. Their CEO in Pa. made millions while they dumped their customer service group to India..Brother, you dont think the Mormons protect their own...they have the most liberal banking protectionism built into law there that would make other banking policies, disclaimers etc blush.
Advanta screwed me. They got their money back via these accounts being insured...period.
You are only a decent American like me down on their luck who is still willing to pay to get it taken care of ....but when they raise arbitrarily your rates overnite to 32.99 and higher. They got caught by the Feds in the middle of this...
dont settle your account with these bozos....they will drop you within 4-5 months and it is resold to someone else credible? Call the CC card company now and tell them you would settle for 55% or you go to bankruptcy...50% is better than nothing and then they can really write off on their taxes. - patrick replies to GiGilook call Heritage Debt Relief in Austin..they negotiate a settlement for you. As you POA, they come to you with (they will settle for 40% of what you owe ($4k) and then Heritage Debt Relief gets a settlement for you with payments and your credit score revived immediately in 30 days...
Call them on the internet. They have certified govt programed people on staff there. Cost is very compatible. it is a pleasure to work with them..
This is no scam.
I wish you the best...I had 4 fricking cards at 78k in debt...my business just tanked.. - Anonym replies to chrisDo not pay them under any circustances. They are a rip off company, same as Advanta, and have been sued many times including many recent cases. Do as I do and do not even talk to them. They wil eventually go away and they are not attorneys, although they represet themselves as a legal firm. They are scum cill collectors. I was ripped off by Advanta and calculate that with what I owe them, I am even. Do a google search on Philips & Cohen & Advanta. You will learn a lot.
- Annoyed replies to AnonymIt doesn't matter that they never had that phone number. The collection agencies seem to do a reverse directory lookup for the addresses and get your phone number. It could be that the person they are calling lived at your address years ago. We had the unfortunate experience of letting a friend with debt problems stay with us. Within a week of him changing his address to ours we began receiving calls. He moved out almost a year ago and we still get called almost weekly
- Bob Wilson replies to Bishop4/28/11......I just went through this scenerio with them. I had offered a settlement and they countered but finally offered to agree to a particular, somehwat higher number. Then the talk was all about getting a checking account number "right now" without their agreeing to generate an offer of settlement in advance. And the "Office Manager" said that they don't do electronic transfers. Why then, was getting my account number so critical?
When challenged, he said that he would have the account number anyway when I sent a check in. I guess that he doesn't anticipate a cashier's check that does not have private account numbers on it.
He did not get abusive in the legal sense but was very aggressive, called me a liar, said that trying to settle made no sense since I could file bankruptcy so I must be hiding something. I suggested that he had never met an honest man that simply had a bad streak of luck and was trying to work through the issues with honor. In the end, I offered to call back Monday since I was traveling and on a cell phone and had only returned the call to be polite and cooperative. His response was "Personally, I don't want to talk to you Monday" and hung up.
They have a tough job but their process and style does not serve them well and got them no settlement from me. - B.CarefulHey everyone, just googled PCA because I'd worked for them for 3 months a bunch of years ago and wondered whatever happened to them. Unfortunately I see that they're up to same tricks. Chances are if you've heard from PCA, your card/loan/etc went into default, and what they did is essentially sell your debt for pennies on the dollar. Example....Advanta could have sold your debt to PCA for a fraction of what was owed, and PCA, now can use any means necessary to obtain as much as they can from that debt. Someone mentioned that there was a debt of 12,000 but PCA would be willing to settle for something like 1500? Chances are, that debt was "bought" for something in that ballpark, Also, there's a loophole here and please be advised by this....the name "Phillips & Cohen Associates" is designed to SPECIFICALLY sound like a lawyers office, and no joke, in "training" when someone would ask "are you a lawyer", you're instructed to say "I don't practice law in your state" but they don't practice law in ANY state.
Regarding how some folks are getting calls for either relatives or next door neighbors....this is called SKIP TRACING. What it is, is basically trying to find you, by pulling credit reports, by doing reverse lookups etc etc. So as a result, you may get calls daily for someone you don't know or possibly a relative. It's harsh. in my short time there (I left after 90 days, I had been applying for jobs for the entire time there because there was cruelty all over that place, from management, on the phones, that's not me. It was a mistake and I got out of there as quickly as I could) there was an employee fired, for calling someone, saying that it was their car manufacturer (ford or whatever) and they needed to call back asap as there were issues with their automobile. When they called back, the employee was like "PAY YOUR BILLS". It was rotten.
Also, please keep in mind, these people calling? Some are rotten, but there's also a lot of pressure on them to "make bonus" because they're paid no money. When you start there, for the forst 2 weeks of training, you're paid 4 dollars and hour. The reason for this? Because the turnaround was so rapid (people would quit immediately when they realized what they'd gotten themselves into) and then after that, I think you're paid 8 dollars an hour? The money comes if you hit "bonus". So basically to make ends meet, some people scratch, claw, fight to get the bonus. So as a result, the pressure on them eeks out on to these phone calls.
There are rotten people there, but not everyone on the phone is a bad person. I was always respectful and as a result, I did well there. I even tried to be respectful to the firm and give them 2 weeks notice when I'd been ready to move on, they said "don't bother, just leave now"
My advice? Know your rights, each state has different ones, but it seems like a lot of things here (the 7:45am phone calls) are illegal, save these voicemails. Any angry or harassing calls? Save them. Protect yourself, bad luck doesn't mean you deserve to be treated like that.
Look out for yourselves, protect yourselves, I'm glad sites like this exist to help others.
