This number showed on my cell - they called asking for my roommate (who I have absolutely no business associations with) apparently for his credit collection purpose. Clearly they have his address and through it they traced my cell number. I believe they are a part of larger network of semi-legal organization confirming to me the fact that a line between legitimate financial institutions and shady criminal enterprises is blurring. Since numbers like these are well documented and used in an illegal manner that also proofs to me that FCC is a bunch of useless pawns playing a larger game.

At 9:05 This Morning I was called from this number a person named Yen stated she was from Capital One calling about a delinquent account. I was asked if my DOB was 12/04/1960 and I said NO. she then wanted to verify the last 4 digits of my SSN and thats when the bells went off!~ I bluntly told her that Identity Theft was a serious crime and I never wanted to be called again. When I told them I work for the Dept. of Homeland Security  they promptly hung up.
Warning: These Scammers are very cleaver TELL THEM NOTHING OR YOU COULD BE VERY SORRY!!!

you guys think that a person's debt is all their fault ... well think again!!

When my hubby was diagnosed (then passed 45 days later) of brain cancer, I discovered his debt, he had gotten cards paid down others, bought who knows what, and left me $60K in credit card debt.  He has opened these cards without my knowledge, but had my name on every account

in the months that followed, there was no way I could keep up with his debt, my house went into foreclosure & I had to move.

yes, I now ignore debt collector calls, they refuse to work with me, they insist I'm responsible, the lawyer I spoke to said that in my state, the spouse is responsible for the debt

then, the economy decides to suck, lost my full time job & benefits too

life sucks, can't find a job, have no credit, so their threat of ruining my credit is a joke LOL it can't get any worse

unemployment is running out, homeless I'll be after I sell what is left of my posessions

so, before you blast someone for not paying their bills, maybe find out the whole story first, for some or us, it isn't or wasn't our fault that we are in the hole we are in.

866-929-5306.  No message no call back number.  I'm less than a month behind and they are calling and call four to six times a day.  They will not take what I can pay.  So, for you folks who keep saying "pay something and they will go away" you are blowing hot air.  They won't go away.  And, obviously you folks must still have some sort of a job.  I haven't had a paycheck since August 2008 and I am still looking for work.  So, things despite O'bummer and Company pronouncements are not getting any better out there, they are getting worse!  So before you go saying "accept the responsibility" take care to note, most of us would love to accept the responsibility IF THERE WAS SOMETHING TO PAY WITH!  Around here, rent, power and heat (it's -4 out right now!), and food for my kids comes before Capital One.  I will not talk to some dolt in India who has no clue what life is like in America, or who has a job that an American should have, but industry saw fit to "ship overseas".

Yes, the attorney you spoke with is correct: Unless you co-signed for the debt or live in a community property State which makes you liable for your deceased spouse's debt, you owe them NOTHING. There is NO "working with" a debt collector over a debt that you are NOT responsible for!

Contact your local legal aid society and get an attorney ASAP.

I received a call on Saturday morning from an HRS representitive looking for someone I worked with.  Unknown to me, they gave my name as a reference.  I asked the rep to remove my number from their call list.  His rude reply to me was; I did not get your number from the phone book, the person we are calling gave your number as a reference, when you have them call us, we will remove your number.  Then he hung up on me.  That was a threat in my book.

Got a call from this number and the person on the other end claimed to be from Capital One. Said that my credit card terms would be changing and they wanted to go over them with me. But first that I had to verify some information on my account. RED FLAG WENT UP. I told her that I would call Capital One back when I had time to do so. She said fine, but they keep calling me back every day.

A word of friendly advice: NO BANK WILL CALL WITH A CHANGE IN TERMS. THIS HAS TO BE A SCAM TO GET YOUR ACCOUNT INFO. DON'T FALL FOR IT! if you get a call like this, tell them to mail you the new terms in writing like every other bank does. And make it clear to the person that you will not do anything over the phone - that you especially won't discuss any account info by phone from an unverified number.

By the way, I have a couple of accounts with Capital One. Never late, never over, and never had a problem. So this isn't a collections call. If it turns out to be legit, then they're only calling to sell me something that I don't need or want. They can mail it to me. I won't discuss account info with anyone that calls or emails me. I only talk to an agent when I call the number on the bill. No other time. If you don't want to get scammed, I suggest you do the same.

    Frustrated in SF
This number, along with 866-929-5307, popped up in rotation on my Missed Calls list. If they really are Capitol One, they have the wrong number as I am not a customer with them.

Some of us have had devastating illnesses, so we can't pay, not because we're irresponsible, but because we've been wiped out by medical bills, even WITH having health insurance.  Don't be so quick to judge others.
