The place porfolio collection agency and they say i didn't pay a credit card in 1986.. and have called me 4-5 X's a day how do i get them to stop

Refuse to acknowledge the debt/card/whatever. To acknowledge the debt or credit card "starts the clock" again for the balance.... and then say 3 words: Statute of Limitations.
Most states have a time limit on collections, anywhere from 3 to 7 years. However if you you tell the debt collector, you acknowledge the debt, or you "understand" or "i tried to pay.." something to that effect... well, the clock starts all over. It is best to deny the charges and tell them about your state's Statute of Limitations (look it up for your state)
