Calling from IRS about tax fraud against me.

I got multiple calls today from 1-866-978-6002 (8669786002).   The claim to be IRS.  They have given two names: Jon Davis and Bryan Taylor.  My wife got the call but they won't talk to her.  The caller wants to talk to husband only.  When I called the number I get call cannot be connected.

Total scam.  Ignore 'em.  DO NOT CALL THEM BACK.  Do not talk to them.  Do not give them any information.

Called twice.  When my daughter got on phone they were very rude and would not give any information.  When called tax preparer said this was a scam and the IRS will send letters and never call.

These people called me twice claiming to be from the irs stating they were investigating a fraud. They are very rude and difficult to understand. I am on the do not call list but I get these kinds if calls often.

just got the same call not a couple of minutes ago. Telling me that i am charged with tax fraud and went into this crap about sending them money...I told them that the number was automatically recorded and sent electronically via computer to the FBI's Fraud division. They hung up on me! Imagine that...I tried to call them back and they wont answer....Imagine that! Turn the table on them and get them to piss their pants.....

I just got the call from them (8669786002) as we'll and I told them that I will call police so he made me talk to his manager when I told him that I will go to police he said  local revenue will call me in half hour they call me back in 5 minutes and said they have transferred my case to local revenue, before I can say something they hung up the call.

If you really owed money to the IRS, they would MAIL you a letter - they do not call you first.  They certainly don't threaten you either.  More info on this scam here:

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:

Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.

After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.

If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.

If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.

If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.

Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail tophishing@irs.gov.

DO NOT CONTACT THERE EVIL SCAM PEOPLE. tHERE'ER PRO'S. DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFO ABOUT YOUR SELF. Debt, SSN#, or members of your family.  Got called 2day by a Glen Capson  claiming 2B from IRS. We've been going through this since 7feb2014. Thc called @ 5:45am. A man claiming 2b a Mark Anderson,(another call from202-803-4758 on 12march2014 same guy)  with a thick India accent, claiming 2b IRS and my spouse had reported income few years back. This should have been a red flag 2me since my spouse hasn't worked for seven years now. The was no income.  I got scared when he listed the things that going to happen to my spouse with immediately freezing of bank accounts, freezing of asset, seizing of passport, up to $25,000 in fine, and court cost...etc and the like the Sheriff was going to come and arrest me and arraign me right now.  They knew all the right things to say, when to sound mean. I received a call from 571 207 0690 threatening me from IRS penalty and tax evasion... The person identified himself as Kevin Brown and said I need to pay $3600 by end of the day by wire transfer. Sad 2say I paid  up  to $2100 b4 I paid attention 2the red flags. Heck I was on the phone, my cell, with an FBI agent trying 2report what was happening. I told the evil man,someone claiming 2b a Mark Anderson, that we'er hangng up now. With out even a heart beat he clain " fine if that is what you want to do. Your want to take your chances in court" ECT" I am just trying help you out. Just say you want your money refunded and we'll file tax evasion charges and you take your chance in court." etc etc etc. I was enough 2make question. What if I'm wrong and I am endangering my spouse ;-( These guys are pro's. DO NOT GET ON THE PHONE WITH THEM. Please learn from my mistake. Hi, Got a pop-up on my computer saying to call 866.978.6002 (pop up from Norton, I do NOT have any Norton products on my computer).  

Called the number, said they were Norton and my computer is infected.  Wanted me to allow remote access to my computer.  I hung up and called Norton.  This isn't a Norton number (big surprise, huh?)

Your computer is infected.
Google "popup virus" or visit your anti-virus site to learn how to disinfect it.

Got a pop-up alert on my computer claiming that my computer was infected and that I needed to call Norton immediately. They had to call me back because they claim they needed to be on a secure line in order to assist me. They called back and said I needed to screen share with them immediately so they could load a file which had actually already loaded but being somewhat computer savvy, I did not open it. And being on a Mac, it does not open automatically which is a fortunate thing. I threw the file in the trash and reported them to Norton. Norton said they have been getting a lot of these calls. They have thick Indian accents and it is a total scam. Traditionally, I don't get pop-ups but I had punched in an address incorrectly which took me to a malicious site.

Seems this number is now a multiple opportunity scam operation. The previous reports all have this number associated with the IRS scam.

Yes the previous reports were IRS associated but I've been doing other research and there are quite a lot of reports now with the scam being related to Norton technical support.
I also reported the number to the FTC

I just got that page as well - mistyped a URL, got redirected to "www.eshoppie.com" and had to force-quit the browser (Safari 7 Mac) to get out of it.

Just got a call from these thugs saying they are IRS and we owe them money .I hung up on them call state police .police told me to report it .i did but I also called the number back and told them that I called the police on them. Plus a little more of what thought of them scamming folks . I think next time Im just hanging  out   I think I will call and harass them

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.
