They call and call... I don't answer out of principal.

They keep calling & calling. They don't leave a message, but just keep calling. 1-866-987-6409...comes up as UNKNOWN.

866-978-6409   they have been calling me about 6 times a day for the last three days.  they never leave a message.  i actually answered it this last time and they just hung up.  i don't get it.  what's the point?  it occurs to me that it could be a calling list computer, calling random numbers and identifying those which answer with a human voice.  there is a device you can buy retail which emits a high-frequency sound, the three-tones you get when you call a number no longer in service.  it precedes the auto-recording, "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and dial your number again..."  the computer program on the calling end identifies the number as a bad one, removing your number from the list.  however, if the calling computer identifies a voice by the pattern most people use when they answer the phone, "hello?", pause if there is nothing responding, then "hello?" again... then it hangs up and logs the number as a good one, places it on a list and sells that list to telemarketers and the like.  it's rotten and should be outlawed.  apparently the software glitches because it is counter-productive when the darn thing calls you over and over.  at that point it's harassment.  but these jerks are protected by not being mandated to list their address in association with the phone number.  

my advice is to search the internet for the tone and record it onto your answering machine.  that will get rid of them.  the downside is that it's really irritating to your real callers.  you might not get your calls.  the only other option is to screen calls.
