- VanguardThis is a fraud based criminal activity which seeks to convince people that their computer has a problem - usually older people who have computers, who do not understand them. They claim that their "Windows license is about to expire" and that a payment needs to be made immediately or the person will lose their computer capability. Then this criminal organization tries to get software installed onto the person's computer which takes $250 and an annual payment to resolve. Calls come from India. The calls are not promotions nor telemarketing, rather criminal fraud.

- Steve PYep, just got this too. The call came from 866-438-0236 but left this number (866-978-6852) to call back. Clearly fraud. Microsoft does not call you if your key is "expired".
- SkytlarReceived call from 866-978-6852 with message Windows License to expire. When told we would conference them in to the Police Department they hung the phone up. Clearly a fraud.

- NOT Stupid!| 3 repliesI got a call and the voice message indicated that my Microsoft License expired and that I had to call 866-978-6852. Microsoft NEVER would call you to indicate that your License is to expires. When you buy a computer and if it has Windows Software, the same is already installed and the manufacturer pays to Microsoft for the License and the manufacturer passes that cost to the buyer of the computer. If I happen to answer the call, I play stupid and let them talk and talk as if I would be scared and willing to pay. After a while I ask them if he/she was born as a leach or a parasite.. and this throws them out and it takes them a while to get it.. then I tell them that the poop my dog makes is more valuable than what they are.. parasites and thieves and we have one in the White House at this moment, 2017.
- MarylanderGot the same call, and they left messages on my answering machine.

- Ever VigilantI received an automated call (female electronic voice) telling me my Windows 10 license has expired and I need to call 866-978-6852 immediately or my computer will no longer be able to use my computer. I assumed it was a fraud/scam, since I do not have Windows 10 at work, nor do I even have Windows operating system at home. So, I had to call for the fun of it and play with these criminals. In fact I figured I would call back a few times. The first time I kept asking them which license number they had on file that had expired. this actually confused them and they hung up. The second time I told them I was with a certain law enforcement agency, but they did not flinch and continued on with their speil. I asked them where they got my Windows licence from they turned foul and told me to F*** off and hung up. I find that wasting their time keeps them away from unsuspecting older people.

- PhilClaimed that my Windows license key had expired and that I needed to call 866-978-6852. I know it's a scam, but I can't resist the urge to try and mess with these guys. What makes it so funny to me is that I don't run Windows on any system that I use for anything useful.
