They are calling from India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka side!!!

Received two calls today from this number. It was a woman with an Indian accent stating that the IRS was wanting to
"help" keep my wife from going to jail.

Got the same call, same person called Christina White. I started to question them on their employee ID, Address, etc. and they started responding with fictitious information. I told them that I thought they were a fraud and they called me stupid and hung up!!

I know the IRS is not that dumb :-)

I got scared when he listed the things that going to happen immediately freezing of bank accounts, freezing of asset, seizing of passport...etc and the like the Sheriff was going to come and arrest me and arraign me right now.

When i said please tell where i  made a mistake in my filing...he kept saying the IRS has a strong case against me in court.
When i asked what i did exactly which is wrong ...he faked he could not hear me and said heloo hello hello and cut.

this is really  criminal...could easily cause a heart attack or stroke  ...
this is not a prank

If you really owed money to the IRS, they would MAIL you a letter - they do not call you first.  They certainly don't threaten you either.  More info on this scam here:

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:

Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.

After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.

If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.

If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.

If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.

Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail tophishing@irs.gov.

DO NOT CONTACT THERE EVIL SCAM PEOPLE. tHERE'ER PRO'S. DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFO ABOUT YOUR SELF. Debt, SSN#, or members of your family.  Got called 2day by a Sean Stiffler claiming 2B from IRS. We've been going through this since 7feb2014. Thc called @ 5:45am. A man claiming 2b a Mark Anderson, with a thick India accent, claiming 2b IRS and my spouse had reported income few few years back. This should have been a red flag 2me since my spouse hasn't worked for seven years now. The was no income.  I got scared when he listed the things that going to happen to my spouse with immediately freezing of bank accounts, freezing of asset, seizing of passport, up to $25,000 in fine, and court cost...etc and the like the Sheriff was going to come and arrest me and arraign me right now.  They knew all the right things to say, when to sound mean. I received a call from 571 207 0690 threatening me from IRS penalty and tax evasion... The person identified himself as Kevin Brown and said I need to pay $3600 by end of the day by wire transfer. Sad 2say I piad  up  to $2100 b4 I paid attention 2the red flages. Heck I was on the phone, my cell, with an FBI agent trying 2report what was happening. I told the evil man,someone claiming 2b a Mark Anderson, that we'er hangng up now. With out even a heart beat he clain " fine if that is what you want to do. Your want to take your chances in court" ECT" I am just trying help you out. Just say you want your money refunded and we'll file tax evasion charges and you take your chance in court." etc etc etc. I was enough 2make question. What if I'm wrong and I am endangering my spouse ;-( These guys are pro's. DO NOT GET ON THE PHONE WITH THEM. Please learn from my mistake. They called 6 times, finally I was home today & asking for $5k for year 2008, I told her okey where do you wants me to send check, she hang up

I have been getting these calls threatening to arrest me and I did call David John the person who left the message today. I was able to talk to Shan Stiffler and asked him about so called tax fraud and is this IRS, he hung up on me. I called several times and the message was the mail box is full.

I got two calls on Nov. 18 from someone claiming to be Christine White. She said she worked for the IRS tax audit dept. and that my wife needed to call her or a warrant for her arrest could happen. Both calls were not answered, but were recorded.

It's a scam. The IRS does not notify you of an audit with a phone call.

Got 2 messages on my phone and i was not at home. When i listened i got tensed, but got relief when i saw all these postings. The person's name is A.Johnson..cud not get his first name.

So moral of the story is NEVER CALL BACK 866-978-6934

Total scam. Two calls for my wife, who is Indian. It was from Daniel Jackson, with a thick South Asian accent. He said he needed to hear from here ASAP, or she would be taken to court.

Got the same call as others have listed on this site:  Scam IRS "pay us now so you don't go to jail" line.  I hung up.

The phone numbers have changed to a 888 number. Indian scammers with phony badge numbers  and a threatening tone (which IRS does not have-IRS agents are very polite).
They are not very smart either- they keep using the same names and badge numbers on their scam.

Same guy, called California. Sean Stiffler, return number 888-508-0928.  Same story of having committed fraud against the IRS and risked going to jail.  Major SCAM !

Same as above, got a call from "Sean Stiffler" threatening that officers would be at my home and I was under surveillance. Stated my husband would have to empty out our house immediately and I would be taken to court for 3 1/2 years for 5K in back taxes and 90 K for cost of being sued by the IRS. Also asked repeatedly how long it would take me to get a criminal defense attorney, that i was being recorded about what would i do to resolve this before he faxed in the warrant for my arrest. he threatened that i would immediately go to prison if i hung up, that he had the authority of the government to seize all our assets. Thankfully, they were too dim to even ask for personal information, I guess because they enjoy the intimidation. The number came up as unknown on cell phone caller ID.
Looking back on the conversation, it should have been obvious, but it is easy to get flustered when the men (call was transferred over from an initial contact "phisher" to Stiffler) are so menacing. Just when I suspect he was going to ask for my bank account number, I told him I was at the post officer to ask a government employee if this call was legal. Stiffler then said " well let me talk to him, I will tell him better" and hung up. What is the penalty for impersonating a government agent? Thank you for giving the info for reporting this crime.
