- Dennis| 4 repliesReceived text claiming it was Transunion. Claiming it was fraud alert on my credit report. Gave https://brz.ai/p/OTSJhwvrr/JiUWQ7
- Caller: TransUnion Alert
- Call type: Text message
- Nimrod replies to Dennis| 3 repliesDoubtful that Transunion would send you a text with a link that uses a URL shortening service.
brz.ai is a domain used by the URL shortening service Braze. URL shorteners were very useful back when length limits on SMS text messages were strictly enforced. However they have always had the drawback of obscuring where the link actually leads to, something that scammers have used to their advantage. The Braze website shows several examples of their shortened URLs and this one does not match the format of the examples.
There are a good number of websites that can safely unshorten a shortened URL without your having to visit the destination yourself. I tried your URL with several of them and the results were that the URL could not be unshortened. The ones that still followed the link returned a 404 error (no page found).
Most likely would be scammers screwed up and sent you a URL that has the wrong domain after the "https://".
Forward the text to 7726 (SPAM) and let your phone service provider deal with them.
That number was set up by the phone companies to combat spam/scam texts and they can shutdown offending phone numbers.

Yep, that is what I stated above. The unshortening site encountered a 404 error. It did through software what I had done manually and we both reached the same result. I did not mention my actions as I felt it was redundant.Pudge wrote:BTW that link goes to a 404 error.
Since the URL is not in the proper format the brz.ai site expects for a shortened URL, it tries to bring up the page pointed to by the URL. Since it does not exist, the site returns the 404 error.
From the examples on the Braze site, the brz.ai domain should be followed by the usual slash and then 5 alphanumeric characters (not that mess of character the poster listed). 5 characters allow them to support up to 60,466,176 shortened URLs at any one time. They could support 36 times as many URLs by adding another character, but being one character shorter is one of their marketing points (I guess it is their "goes to 11"). - Pudge replies to NimrodOh, I see. Thanks again. Good post
