My elderly friend in PA got two calls from this number yesterday on her landline.
The man said she won Publishers Clearinghouse, $1 million prize. Go to WalMart and get a Western Union check for $400 to pay part of the taxes. Then pay rest of taxes when she files her return. Someone would pick up the money that night. She said she didn't have that money. He said they could pick up the next day. She said she wouldn't be home.
Did they know where she lived? She did not give her address. She doesn't buy magazines. She didn't enter Publishers Clearinghouse.
I asked if he was foreign. She said the man had slurred speech.
She notified the local police who said this is common. She should call the attorney general.
The man called her back a few minutes later and said why did she waste his time if she didn't want the prize. She told him he wasted her time.
I told her not to answer unknown numbers and never give her name or address. If it is important she can listen to a message.
