This is a scam number.  The person "Mark" tells you that you won a Publishers Clearing House prize.  He instructs you to go to your local store and pick up a green dot card, let him know which store you chose and call him back when it is active and they will be on there way.  I have heard the same scam from the same caller but using Western Union instead.  Nice!

    THIS IS A SCAM!!!
Just got a call from "Mark" informing me that I had won $850,000.00 in Publishers' Clearing House Sweepstakes.  When I told him that I had not entered, he assured me that my cell phone company had entered me as a special surprise.  Riiiiiight.  All I had to do to collect was go to Walgreens', Walmart, et cetera (any other place I can wire money from, basically) and "activate a green dot card" (wire money) to cover the one percent of $850,000.00 I owed in taxes, my generous and loving cell service provider having agreed to cover all other taxes and expenses for me. (It really is the least they could do, really, since they entered me without my knowledge or permission.)  Then all I have to do is sit back and happily wait for the UPS truck which is certainly coming within 30 minutes of my having "paid my remaining taxes".  At the risk of repeating myself, Riiiiiiiiiight.  When I told him I had googled his number, he told me the scam reports I was reading here were the actual scam.  So when I said next, "You are telling me that instead of just waiting for the UPS truck to come, I first have to pay out 1% of $850,000, then wait on my doorstep?"  He answered by hanging up.  C'mon, say it with me everybody:  Riiiiiiiiight.

This number just called, same thing... I quickly googled the number and then played along with it knowing that this was a COMPLETE SCAM for about 9 minutes. Could tell the person on the other end of the phone I was going to do it... Then I said with a completely abrupt attitude.. "I know this is a F****** scam and you are a crazy to think that I would believe this obsurd story.. Have a good day as*****!"

Megan, your handling of this useless rodent was superb. Well done!

After a declining trend over the past two months, there has been a marked increase in the number of scam calls made by these woolly headed, foul smelling, black stained Jamaican rodents.

Yesterday, a worthless chigger called my house at 10pm - TEN PM - claiming he was with "UPS." Seriously? Even the most mentally challenged readers of this forum are saying, "WTF?" I used the same tactics I have been recommending to everyone: prolong the call, frustrate this vile creature and get him to "dun luze his kool, mon."

One last note, this was NOT a random call to area code 619, as this disgusting little beast had my name. Not good.

It's pretty sad when you get "scam" calls like this. One is left wondering how in the hell your number (and name) fell into the hands of these criminals in the first place. A good rule of thumb in the digital age is, if you don't recognize the caller, don't answer. Instead, Google the number and get the real lowdown. Is anyone really gullible enough to fall for these things anymore?

My husband recieved several calls from this number, finally he decided to humor the idiot named "mark with publishers clearing house". He instructed us to do the same thing as everyone else has stated that he asked them to do. My husband then proceeded to tell him he was turning this number in and he hung up. My husband decided to mess with him, called the number back and "mark" flat out cussed us out!! Hahaha I have never heard anything so damn funny in my life. I may be wrong here, but I don't think PCH would employ someone who would tell their customers to go "suck your own mothers pu$&%". Yep...that's what he told us to do. O_o BEWARE PEOPLE.

    >> My husband decided to mess with him, called the number back <<

That is unfortunate ... because it will cost you money!

DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER BACK!

    1) The call was from a scammer, trying to entice you to send money
    2) If you return the call, it will cost you money!  (Keep reading)
    3) The 876 (Jamaica) prefix is VERY frequently used by scammers, and WILL cost you money if you call it back.

Some area codes are not toll-free numbers and calls from any other area code are billed at international long distance rates.

Some curious people return the call and will immediately be charged $19.95 for an international call fee and an additional $9-per-minute charge, according to a news release from the BBB.

Here is a list of some area codes that will be billed as international calls:

    242 Bahamas
    246 Barbados
    264 Anguilla
    268 Antigua
    284 British Virgin Islands
    345 Cayman Islands
    441 Bermuda
473 Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique
    649 Turks and Caicos

Grreeeeat. Just what we need. Haha! I'm glad he only called it back once. I guess that's what he gets for being an ornery [***] and wanting to call the guy back to see what it was all about. I'm sure we will survive whatever charge we recieve, BUT thank you for the information regarding future scamming idiots.
