- UPSET| 1 replyI have been getting this pop-ups on my computer screen and gets on the way of my work. Anything that I type opens a new window and a "Virus Warning" window pops up and states that my computer is compromised 94% and my data will be lost unless I call 877-254-1208. I called the number and it sounds like telemarketing. I hang up and then I looked up the number on the web.
Anyone knows how to make the pop-ups stop. Please help. - Badge714 replies to UPSETA good place to start is to run the program 'malwarebytes' in safe boot. A freeware program like 'ccleaner' would be useful to clear your system/browser cache as well. But DO NOT call that 1-877 number again & DO NOT turn over control of your computer to anyone but yourself, or a local repair shop. In future make sure you have backups of your files & system. Usually a good idea not to store passwords, banking info, personal info on your computer.

- IrfanThis is absolutely a scam, designed to fool those who may not be tech savvy and who may call for assistance. These are commonly used to scam the elderly and other vulnerable folks out of their money. These sorts of people, to me, are the worst of the worst, so I gave them a call and repeatedly tried to seduce the lady on the other end of the line with inappropriate and degrading comments. I just kept intensifying it and made her extremely uncomfortable, until I finally stopped and just lectured her about how horrible her scamming is. She sighed, called me some choice words, and hung up.
