A message was left on my cell phone, allegedly from the Bank of America, asking me to call this number and giving me the hours of availability. It sounded legitimate, but I didn't return the call in case it wasn't.

Why did they want you to call? What about the call "sounded legitimate"?

Dustin from Bank of America, calling “in regard to a recent request that they received”. Since I’m not a BofA customer, I’m assuming this is a scam.

Got called on a Friday. BofA - left a message with ref #. This is 2nd time someone tried to open a BofA account in my name. Tried to find this number on BofA site, but it's not listed. Called main BofA number, but the hold was over 1 hour. I called this number anyway. It's legit. They are closing the fraudulent account.

Received a call at 8:48 a.m. saying it was from Bank of America, left a message with a reference number. Called back and they sent me a text confirmation from the usual Bank of America text confirm number, but I was worried it was a scam, so I hung up and called the bank's official customer service number. They reviewed the contact history with my account and said no one from the bank had contacted me and they thought it was a phishing scam.
