- so done| 1 replyMy son was on my computer trying to get on Best Buy Website...and yup this pop-up came on...one of the only things you can do is to restart the computer. Im running a complete scan now..but it appears to be isolated to the Best Buy Web address...IMPORTANT do not restore previous pages when your browser opens or you will be right back to the locked screen.
- Caller: no one
- Anyone replies to so doneIt's just crummy javascript code, no virus. Try installing script and ad blockers to prevent this.
- Karen replies to duhall314@charter.netThis phone number was on my screen when my computer suddenly froze up yesterday. I stupidly called it and questioned the person who answered what company they represented when he said he could help me "unlock" my computer. He indicated that he was the authorized computer tech service of Apple, and that the number was placed into my computer to come up if something like this happened. He then spend an hour and a half inside my computer telling me that I am being hacked, I have malware on my computer, etc. etc. He tried to sell me a fix and then a 3 year supply of Norton, anti-virus protection. This would cost me $500.00. That is when I said no and asked him to terminate our conversation. He then gave me his name as "Andy . . . . " and a different phone number to call him back. That number is of a reputable computer repair service. I am pretty sure his name was not "Andy" as he had a thick Indian accent. I called the Geek Squad and got my computer cleaned up for free based on the contract I already have with them for 24/7 tech support. (Best Buy). This whole thing was a scam, and I am angry that I almost fell for it. He had, by the way, installed malware on my computer.
Caller: "Andy Davidson" (probably a made up name) - JimI got the same thing today but I was going to the Home Depot page
- Caller: Indian
- AlI received this popup when going to home depot page, same as Jim from Nov 21, 2016. I couldn't close the 2 windows that came up or otherwise navigate in Internet Explorer. It said not to restart computer, so, I did a system restore and restarted to be on the safe side; then a virus scan. Computer appears OK now.
- MurryI was on homedepot.com when my screen went red with these 2 smaller boxes. I went to my smartphone and Google Microsoft help desk phone number, it was a different
Number. I saw this 800notes.com on my phone and clicked on. Someone there (tifconner) showed how to get out without being scammed,
Thanks . They said to call Microsoft help desk with this number - Sabrina replies to EllyIt's very easy, just power off your computer!
- Tana Broyles| 1 replyI was trying to access facebook, and got locked out of my computer, I am running windows 10, on my other desktop...It tells you not to shut your computer of because of loss of data, that you have contracted a trojan virus, alot of doom and gloom, and to call this number: 1-877-261-5407, and claims this is Microsoft Help Desk, I know the number there is different.
- Heinz57 replies to Tana BroylesDo not call them or allow a stranger to remotely access your PC. Clear your cache and reboot. Then you can do a virus scam just to be sure.
- ShellThe same thing just happened to me. I was on Ebay just looking not buying. Message came up the same as others. I called the phone number, as soon as he answered, I figured it was a scam and started asking him all kinds of questions. He ask if I had a virus protection and which one. He also ask if I was surfing or buying anything. I would not give him the information. My phone started dying so I told him I had to hang up and get another phone. He got a little agitated and told me, "Do not call back, do not call back!! You must fix now!" I told him he was a scam and hug up the phone. Indian accent, which sounded like a scammer I got a call from a couple of years ago telling me he was from Microsoft and my computer was in danger of getting hacked. I had a couple of free minutes and decided to play along never giving information but every time he would tell me to click on something on my computer I would ask him what I was suppose to see. He would tell me, then he finally caught on and started yelling at me. LOL FINALLY GOT ONE BACK!!!
- Caller: claimed to be Microsoft
- East Side Bob| 1 replyMy computer has frozen up with the same phone number and details as above. However, powering down and rebooting my computer twice DOES NOT WORK to get rid of this message. Nobody called me, but the 877-261-5407 number is identified as "Customer Support, Microsoft Windows Help Desk." Any suggestions?

- SunshineI did not get a call from the 1-877-261-5407 number, but was urged to call when a warning sign appeared after clicking a link to go to eBay. It scared the crap out me, so I called 1-877-261-5407; heavy Indian accented male answered. I was highly sceptical of the individual, but I was also too scared to ignore the situation. Never had or heard of such thing. He said he was from Microdot Support, so I felt a little more at ease, but still something didn't quite add up. I kept going though.
He had me download something so he could control my laptop. I should have known this was not right, but I didn't. I mean, this was creepy to me, but he assured he would let me know what to do to stop the culprit. So he got access to my laptop and had a chat box opened. In the chat box it said his name was Michael Walter and he also confirmed this. First alert. Michael, really? I ignored it. He then told me to push the 'windows' button plus the letter R to open the 'Run' section. But oddly enough, someone then typed in the chat box that they were going to call me; and they did. The caller ID showed the caller as "Unavailable". I didn't answer at first. They called again while I was still on the phone with the so called Michael Walter; out of curiosity I clicked over (or I thought I did) and the so-called Michael answered. I was like What the...? Second alert. I knew something was off because 'Micheal', now spoke to me as if we weren't just talking. I ignored my suspicion and keep going. (I know you're probably thinking, "Dummy", or something similar. Cause that Is exactly how I feel as I'm typing this).
Anyway....someone opened Notepad and typed: Hang up the phone mam, do not trust them, they are not good people. I was really freaked out at this point. I was thinking how in the world do they know my name and that I'm talking on the phone. Felt like I was in one of those thriller suspense movies or something. I told 'Michael' and he said: "No, they are the ones who were bad". He had me shut down the PC.
As my Laptop was shutting down, I began asking questions of how he got alerted and how this all worked. He said something about, when u order online u have all the info in there that gets stored on servers. He also said he'd explain more once my PC was up. When my PC was back on, he had me install that download again. This time when chat reappeared, it said his name was Rex, and again, he confirmed this. Third alert. At that same moment I was supposed to click ok to give him access to my screen. But before I did, I was like, dude, u said your name was Michael. He never addressed that and insisted I click ok to give him access. After a couple times of avoiding question, I finally hung up and shut down my laptop. I got on another device and looked up that number. Found it was fake.
Ugh!!! I am kinda mad at myself. I totally know better. I'm usually suspicious of just about everything. I couldn't understand why I went so far with it. I believe it was out of fear and a teeny bit of curiosity. The warning said something about 'illegal activity's from that IP address. So I scared me. I wish I would have checked the number way sooner. I also wish I didn't go that far with him and followed my gut when I noticed several times something was wrong. Now I'm scared to get on my laptop, as I don't know if they got any information from it or put some virus or what..
Note: During our conversation and after I hung up, I got a couple calls from: Unavailable, 571-367-3089 & 855-713-6274, all of which are scam phone numbers.
Oh, well. I guess this is a lesson for me. - smsI got a notification that my computer had a virus while I was trying to get to netflix, I was instructed to call this number and so I did and it was unavailable-- I assumed Windows Support would have some kind of on-hold system or something along those lines so I hung up. I just shut down my laptop and now I'm going to see if it's okay.
