I received a text from sms.alert@visa.com/VISA. (Card Blocked) Alert. For more information please call 1-877-269-9842. Thank you/ I've checked other postings and this is a scam. Apparently this text has gone out to a lot of T-mobile customers over the last week or so.

I just received this text too about 15 minutes ago. I Googled the number first, and now I'm going to call T-Mobile about it.

Oh, and if you call, it asks for your card number. It tells you to enter your card number and press pound. But I don't see why Visa or T-Mobile would want your card number. I pay my bill by my card every month, but what if I paid by some other card or by some totally different way?... My guess is that it's a credit card scam. I'd suggest to people not to enter any information.

My daughter just received a text stating: sms.alert@visa.com/VISA. (Card Blocked) Alert. For more information please call 1-877-269-9842. I called the number back and they are asking for personal information(card number, pin, etc), so I hung up immediately. It's a scam, please avoid responding to their sms.

I received the same test message on my T-Mobile phone.  I called the number and got a recording that asked for the Visa card number, which without thinking I gave to them.  Then it asked my my PIN number that the Visa card was associated with.  I knew better than to give them that; so, I hung up.  I called both of the banks where my Visa cards were issued.  The first bank said they don't send text messages.  The other bank said they do send text messages but you have to sign up for it, which I hadn't.  I had them cancel my card and reissue another one just to be safe.  I went to T-Mobile and the sales person said she had received the same text and we contacted their fraud department.  The fraud department suggested I contact my local law enforcement.  Law enforcement said to call Crime Stoppers and report it and IF enough people did that then they would investigate.  This is a whole lot of trouble for someone phishing.

    STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!
To stop any and all bogus email text messages to your phonenumber@tmomail.net log into your tmo account create an email alias and turn on alias only delivery for email texts.  I did this a year ago and have not received one of these email to text scam message since. This feature will only allow messages from the internet to deliver to your handset if they address them to your alias name like joetmo@tmomail.net. As long as you don't publish it you will never get a message from these jerks who send this stuff to a range of numbers with the same area code.
