- SAFEWhile the amount and requester may be unfamiliar this number is legit and safe. You should call your bank directly and get issues resolved. If your trying to purchase something online or recurring, this may be no issue as sometimes companies will do a verification, but any amount over 2.00 or does not have a description of VER or similar be weary and call your bank directly (most of the time number is on your card)

- Mad as a hornet!!FreeMSG [My bank's name] Fraud Center 877-273-5740: $1.00 on card [my last 4 digits ####] at BP899056670POR. If valid reply YES, fraud NO. To Opt Out, STOP.
ALSO RECEIVED EMAIL FROM EFACTNOTIFICATIONS at the same time to call the same phone number.

I LOGGED IN TO MY CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT ***NOT*** I repeat ***NOT*** the card that was associated and referenced in the text message and the email AND THE ATTEMPTED CHARGES HAD GONE THROUGH 4 TIMES (YES, 4 times!) on my credit card.
I refused to call the phone number associated with a text message and the email (and after reading these posts so glad that I did not call that number!) and instead called my banks fraud hotline. After that I contacted my credit card company and dispute the charges. Even the credit card fraud department rep was alarmed that the charge was attempted and also processed on two of my accounts completely unrelated one being a credit card company and the other being my bank account and charged at the same time. Do not take this message lightly, check ANYTHING/ACCOUNT associated with your name..- Caller: FreeMsg [My bank's name]

- JzSunThis is a legitimate # from Visa calling about a fraudulent charge. Respond to it. Better yet, when we were texted by this number we called the number on the back of our card and immediately cancelled all our debit cards. All. Of. Them! My husband used the debit card once for an internet transaction and that was enough! One transaction and stolen. Just cancel all your debit cards. It’s exactly what I plan to do going forward. Use cash and checks. Screw this digital BS. It’s just another way to steal your hard earned money.

- JzSun| 2 repliesAgain, don’t pay attention to the card stealing fraudsters who want you to think this text from 877-273-5740 is a fraud #. I repeat, if you ever get a text asking you if you used your debit or credit card at a place you did not use it at, then immediately STOP what you are doing and call the number on the back of your card. I also checked my bank account and there was a fraudulent charge that was processed. Several other charges were pending or were processing and the visa representative was able to reject them. It’s the real deal. Only the thieves that want to steal your money are telling you otherwise. I suspect some fraudsters have built fake websites to claim this isn’t legit. Be smart, on your toes, protect your wallet and immediately call the number on the back of your card and report and cancel the card. Ours was a debit card but Visa could be calling about fraudulent credit card charges too. The bank account you save will be your own.

Checked my account, there was obviously no pending transactions. Googled the phone number and found this lovely forum. Right along with two spoof website listing the phone number in question as a “legitimate” bank/credit fraud department.
As I was typing this out, I just received a call from 1 (844) 682-4502...Regarding the above text message I received.- Caller: Fraud Department

- Mike-in-MD replies to Jennifer14Scammers often spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into thinking they are talking to the right place. There is a mixture of reports here with no way for the reader to be certain any of the reports are reliable. Best to always call your financial institution on a known number to verify rather than risk getting scammed by a spoof of a legit number.

Got at text that said "FreeMSG Cardholder Services Fraud Center 877-273-5740: $0.00 on card 5530 at VOIP Call. If valid reply YES, fraud NO. To Opt Out, STOP" When I called the number it said welcome to the fraud detection services. Then they ask you to verify the last 4 of your social and my phone number where I received the text.. Like an idiot I did with no hesitation because it seemed legit. When I typed in the info to verify the number hung up on me and two days later my account had been wiped out.- Caller: Card services fraud department
