Call here every day and leave a message about trying to trace some one. I'm on the do not call list. They state by law they can keep calling here

they are a pain, I don't answer they keep calling.  I will out last them.

Keeps calling and leaving messages!  SCAM!!!! “This message is regarding our location and tracing efforts for (my name) zero now to speak with a representative or call 1-877-279-7734 it is important that we speak with you in regards to _⁠_⁠_⁠_ whereabouts if we cannot verify this information _⁠_ _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ the law allows us to contact all references on file if you were unable to provide any information please contact us regardless at 877-279-7734 thank you…”

877-279-7734 has been power calling my house.  State that if i don't provide my whereabouts the law allows them to contact all references on file.  they say to call them back regardless of whether or not i have any information???   Has anyone tried to call them back?  Part of me wants to tell them off but i am reluctant to engage with anyone on this line.

What is "power calling"? Dos it have a BHP or ft/lb rating?

There is no reason to call them back,

Criminals masquerading as debt collectors attempt to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged (they use the bad check or hot check claim a lot) and go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished without actually being sued or going to court, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They will use the words “Mediator”, “Arbitrator”, or “Law Office” to make you believe that they are something other than a debt collector want-a-be and that they don’t have to follow Federal and State collection laws.  They do have to follow those laws, but they won’t.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Your caller is a scammer.  They are trying to scare you into paying a bill you don't owe.   Ignore them.  Block the calls.

BBB has seen a major increase in collection agencies setting up businesses in the Upstate New York area over the past several years.  In an effort to keep consumers informed about which collection agencies are operating in accordance with Federal Law,  we are asking for specific information from all collection agencies operating in our service area.  The requests includes the following:
:Federal Employee Identification Number-EIN
:Proof Of Licensing, bonding and or registration by the city, town in which your business is located.
:Proof of licensing required by any state in which you operate by mail or telephone or email.
This collection agency has not responded to our requests.
BBB advises consumers to be aware of their legal rights in regard to collections.  The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a statue enacted in 1978 which seeks to eliminate abusive and harassing behavior by any debt or collection agency.  The act states specific practices and rules under which debt collectors must abide by.  There are penalties for agencies found breaking these laws.  Some of these laws state that a collection agency is forbidden to harass a debtor, which includes threatening violence or legal action.  They may not use crude or offensive language or identify themselves as anyone other than by their business name.  If a consumer believes a debt or collection agency has violated any of the FDCPA laws the BBB encourages them to file complaints with the BBB at bbb.org and Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov

Call from a variety of numbers.  Usually 877 area code.  Their robo-messages use the phrase “law allows us” a lot.  Usually claim to be some sort of locating group and want to find out your address. Sometimes they use a CID of FMR.  Just another New York state Buffalo Bully.

They keep calling my fiancé looking for me but I don't owe anything. Today they called and he hit ignore and then all of his contacts were gone.  And his phone rebooted. Could that be a coincidence. Who are these people!!

I tried to get my cell phone carrier to block them and it wouldn't allow them to do so.

If you have a smart phone you can download a free call blocking app.  Or you can put them in your contacts list and give them the ring tone "no ring" or "silence".  That won't stop the calls but it will make them easier to ignore.

I am a real debt collector. This is a scam. My Girlfriend got a call in which the caller broke the law 9 times. I happily called back to sue them, but no VM allowed. He then called her from a local cell phone #. VERY ILLEGAL. Tell these guys to go F themselves.

It would be easier to just take the call and tear him apart. Once they realize there is no $ there, they will move on. I am a real Debt Collector, these guys are fake.

As a REAL debt collector, I applaud you educating consumers about scams and law-breakers. These guys are fake, do NOT supply any info. Ask for a DUNNING LETTER via email, so you can verify legitimacy.
